Game Design Theory / 2.5D fighting game being developed in Unity 3D basic concept.

her goes just a rushed summary of the basic story, will post more details shortly, please give me your honest feedback.

here goes my summary excuses grammar, At the end of the industrial revolution technology took a different turn. Instead of the microchip and computers dominating, people still rely on the steam engine. During that time two scientist began work on using plant dna to cure human disease, during an accident the experiment grows out of control causing a global cataclysm where the climate changes and the forest grows uncontrollably. 2/3 of the population are killed in the event, and the original research team, and the knowledge disappear from the world. Out of the ash's creature begin to emerge from the forest and a war ensues with the rest of humanity.

forward 300 years and the church now rules what's left of humanity, and they have a strange peace treaty with the inhabitants of the forest. ( Think environmental struggle) there is also a tournament held every generation to ensue peace called Pax Liberati, where combatants from the forest will meet in fair contest fighters from the human world. From those battles peace is ensued and resources are earned, since the majority of the still reside in the forest. Obviously being a fighting game you will play as one of the combatants competing in this years tournament.

the story actually goes on, future than the tournament, the military is controlled by the church, thing Rome. They also have a private police force that is controlled directly by the Cardinal Gabriel. It is his organization Fidelis, made up of nobles, and knights to keep the peace, and guarantee no fighting outside of the tournament. they also handle all acquisition of people causing trouble.

the second group is Pietas a shadow organization under the direct control of the Arch Bishop, who's main concern is finishing the research the caused the original catastrophe and eliminating the forest. The main doctor from the original experiment is still alive, and managed to use his research to survive all these years. He has taken over the role of the arch bishop and will be the main enemy for the game. he transform in the kimera, a cheap boss equal to Shao Khan (pietas is able to infect humans with a type of virus turning them into monster and make them attack there own people. They cause events such as this hoping for all out war.)


the final group is called mystweavers and they act as the religious section of the forest. they are unable to take human form and will remind you of Devy Jones crew from pirates of the Caribbean. They wont play a major role in the game, but the second scientist from the experiment and wife to the Arch Bishop is still alive and tied to the forest. she is unable to leave but will quide her children to be at peace with the humans. She also knows her ex husband is still alive and trying for all out war.


for the game you will play as characters from either faction, and a few nobles trying to make names for them selves. As of right now we are looking at a 12 character rooster to start and will expand the more funds we receive.

Well, we can always use more fighting games. This sounds exciting, although you seem to be placing a lot more weight on the story than on the gameplay. It sort of starts off like I Am Legend, then turns into Robin Hood/Avatar/Robot Jox, then Gladiator/Final Encounter/Judge Dredd, then World War Z/Fern Gully/Flags of Our Fathers, then finally Lord of the Rings/Back to the Future/Stargate.

The first 12 characters could be roosters, then the extra DLC could introduce hens.

I kind of agree I mixed a few concepts together.

but basically you start of in a world that is unbalanced, the forest is forbidden to people and you have giant walls and fortifications protecting the cities. The cities themselves are ruled by the church and religion. The reason we go so much into the story is so we have something to design from.

You've got a solid skeletal storyline for this and the story is rather fresh for the post-apocalyptic genre. While fighting games are mostly action-oriented, the story still plays a role in how memorable it is. This could be really cool if the actual fighting game is top notch.

Thanks for the complement the story will play a major role in the actual game. The plot is everyone is trying to ascend there powers. sop in game you can ascend but there will be consequences to your actions.

the world itself has been split. Asia and japan will represent the heart of the forest, there will be a few references to parts of Africa. Nothing will be really identifiable but I like some of Chinese culture and for some reason i picture them when thinking of the forest inhabitants. Real formal, and traditions and with a respect for nature, similar to martial arts.

the human world will be more like the roman empire, and such but industrialized. they will have castle styles things but have technology. they will also have air ships and such. but everything is more along the lines of steam driven and trains.

in the game you will have 3 modes, normal, enhanced, and ascended or awakened. You can switch freely between all 3. the ascended is your strongest but can't be used very long, if used to long does major damage and can't be used in the match again. each mode will change you appearance. one character lycan looks like a ninja warrior, but can grow were wolves claws, of turn full werewolf. The characters fom the forest change there bodies.


the people from the cities used weapons and can change there weapon. so think of using a BANKAI FROM BLEACH.

each set will have there own powers, and draw backs. so no type has an advantage over the other. then there will be a few characters thrown in to balance the gameplay. they will have a special ability such as a girl who can summon creatures to fight.

not sure how feasible it is but we are also looking at including a large character customization screen. so you can actually create your own custom character to fall in love with. what i mean by that is I always wanted my own character I could tailor to my own play style, that no one would ever be able to play as. I have a developer looking into how to create a character customization screen in unity 3d.
