Android / Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8020) can't talk with ADB

I have subscribed an offer from our major local mobile operator (Telecom Italia Mobile), and I have purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet(GT-N8020), Wi-Fi, HSPA+ and LTE (4G). Android version is 4.1.

I have downloaded the updated Kies, with the related USB drivers, and all updateds of SDK tools (to revision 22) and plugins for Eclipse.

When I try to upload the APK to the device, the ADB cannot find any compatible device, so I cannot test the APK. Consider that my PC and Kies recognize correcly the tablet and let me browse the file system.

I guess that maybe 2 main reasons for things not working: the device is too new, and it is not yet compatible with Android ADB, or my Windows is too old (XP).

Any idea?

Some Android devices just won't connect.

I assume you did all the settings on the Galaxy Note to let it do USB debugging?

I have three Android devices and one of them just refuses to connect via adb.

Hi AL,
USB works perfectly with KIES (that recognizes without problems the device) and with my old PC, so the drivers are OK.
I suspect that the problem is related to ADB.
In any case, would you pls give me some hits about the setting for USB debugging. I have not yet heard about that so far. Thanks.

Assuming the Galaxy Note is similar to the Galaxy S III, in Settings:
1. Under Security check 'Unknown Sources'
2. Under Developer Options check 'USB Debugging' and 'Allow mock locations' (I don't know if the second is required, but it can't hurt)

When I was looking for my new phone, I ended up with the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S III as my final two choices. And the Galaxy Note was just a little too big for a phone for my tastes. I love my Galaxy S III.

My Galaxy Note is a 10.1 tablet, not a smartphone (even it can phone too):
