What is the correct procedure to perform a version upgrade?
Should I uninstall the old one first?
I actually have v1065 and want to upgrade to v1076.

You can keep multiple versions if you change the install directory for the new one--they do not interfere with each other. So, if you want to install 1076 but keep the old, you can install the new one to another directory (i.e., "C:\AGK1076"). Then launch AGK.exe in the 1076 folder to use that version, and launch AGK.exe in any of the other installed folders to use that version.

But, what if I just want to have 1 version, the latest one?
Is it safe to install on top of the old one or is it better to remove and install?

FIRST: Take backups of any important project folders, where you may have your own projects!
THEN: I would uninstall the previous version, and reinstall the new version. That will keep things nice and tidy.

(NOTE: Personally I prefer to keep multiple versions of AppGameKit installed in different folders.)

Since you are starting with v1065 (first, don't delete your installation file for that version, just in case you want to install it), then you will want to do an uninstall first.

Just to be safe, in case the uninstall procedure doesn't work, copy any directories with your projects someplace outside of your AppGameKit installation path. So, if you need to completely delete the AppGameKit directory, you won't loose your work that way.

When upgrading between major versions, it is a very good idea to completely uninstall the previous version and make sure that all old files are removed.

EDIT: And I agree with AgentSam, I keep multiple versions around. That way I can test to see if an error that suddenly shows up was introduced in a new version or not.

I never uninstall before updating, and it all works fine for me.
