Hi,
A few short hours ago I ordered my new computer with Win 8. I'm moving from win XP (pentium), so this will be a big jump. I've been reading some of the Win 8 comments, and it would seem that on the PC side win 8 is here to stay. Where does this leave DB Pro, plug-ins, and FPS for the future?

I have a few questions.

1) What should I expect and prepare for when I try to load DB pro and my plug-ins into win 8?

2) I read something about having to load a DX9 ddl, can anyone help me understand this process.

3) What is in the future for this language. Will there be a 64bit version of DB Pro? Support for DX 11 and the new DX in Win 8?

4) What about packaging a finshed program in Win 8, will it run on XP, Vista, and Win 7, as well as Win 8.

I intent to journal my experience, which I will share, but I want to be ready once my new super box arrives.

Thanks

1) All the plug-in's I'm using on Win8 work fine.

2) Windows 8 ships with DirectX 11. DBPro uses DirectX 9. Just download and run the directX 9 installer and you should be good to go. (I personally needed to manually download and copy an additional 8 directx dll files, which were easy enough to find.

3) No one knows...

4) Yes, it'll work fine in all versions of windows.

Ok.. Thanks Mobiius

So I got the super machine, and I must say that in general I like windows 8. All but two of my XP programs seem to be installed and working fine.

I have attempted to install DBpro several times and in several ways. I first downloaded DirectX9 and it loaded fine.

DBpro loads OK, starts, but when I try to compile and run a program I get an error..

"Undefined Parser Error"
Compilation Failed (syntax Errors)

The same program runs fine under my WinXP set-up ?????

When I install DBpor it wants to place the pr0gram in a Program (86) folder. I tried installing to a different folder and got the same results.

Any help or direction would be appreciated

Install it to the C: drive. I (And many people here) have their DBP installed to C:\The Game Creators\Dark Basic Professional\

Hey Hey... After more fooling around IT WORKS

I took your advise on the C drive location. So far my projects are running.

As for Win 8... so far I love it!, and that's a lot coming from a guy that started with Macs (25 years ago), and has been through every windows there's been (except vista)

This is the best mannered OS from MS (ever), and anyone whose got a tablet or smart phone, will find the interface much more inviting. I'm already saving for a touch-screen.

A few issues, but minor compared to what I was preparing for. Odd, Cartography shop runs just fine, while 3D World Studio will not run at all. Even T.ed runs.

In 24 hours I've made a complete transition from Win XP.
Cool and thanks for the help.
