Free means free. People do it for their CV or glory, or because they are nice. However, you ARE required to credit them somewhere in you help or About system. Which is fair.

that is indeed a great find.

and these are ROYALTY FREE

when you hover above a track it shows you the permissions you have
then you can click on it and see what kind of permissions you have and what you can do with it.

just remember to check.

In my opinion, the source below is the very best.

http://teknoaxe.com/cgi-bin/home.pl

A seemingly infinite amount of royalty free high quality music for any free or commercial use--you don't even have to give the guy credit if you don't want. He uploads more all the time for every genre.

When it comes to sound effects, if one take a wav file, change the bitrate, smapling rate, pitch, runs it trough filters, remove noise and silence, so that not 1 byte in the file is as the original one. Then how can anyone claim you use their music ?

thats a very good question...
but if you can do all that...
then why take other ppl music when you can create your own from 0 ?

The Copyrights aren't taken from a file hash, they're taken from Chords + Melody.
You can change the bitrate, pitch anything, these will remain the same, if they aren't, then it's not the same song!

There is no chord or melody in a sound effect, like a lion's roar. I did not mean music, but sound effects.

I've always wondered how someone can protect a sound sample for copyright... I mean surely if you sample a can purring - you don't own that copyright, the cat does!

Nice site though, I'm sure it'll come in handy.

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.

I didn't know where to put this. Came by it yesterday while looking for Sprite effects I can learn from. May go well with some of the sound FX. Not my blog.

Looks great Stormwire, I would be careful using some of those commercially though as it is likely some are taken from copyrighted material from a quick look.

Mods do you mind Sticky it? or pherhaps take this post and make it a sticky:

Free Sources of Royalty Free Stuff :

// Music
http://dig.ccmixter.org/free_music
http://incompetech.com/music/
http://teknoaxe.com/cgi-bin/home.pl

// Sprites and 2D Effects
http://spritefx.blogspot.ie/search/label/Explosions

<><><><><><><>

then ppl could add more and you stick them all up in one post that will be sticky on the main AGK/DBP/DGDK/FPSC pages. i think we all would benefit

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for a sticky on free music sites (as handy as this thread is), there are already quite a few "free stuff" threads in the "Music & Sound FX" forum. I could move this there if you like?

Royalty free by definition means the Artist does NOT expect any royalties to be paid for use of the content but depending on attribution terms he will expect you to give credit for the music.

All these sites are good but please be very carefully and read the licensees that come with them.

Not all on these sites are free to use for Commercial Use and many have rules on how you can use the stuff like full credit with the product in full view when releasing.

some are under attribution 3.0 and some are under attribution 2.0 both are diffrent.

Some are attribution noncommercial so please be carefully when using these sites.
