On this link:

The description basically means that you get a badge for releasing a game to the full version. Is this only awarded to certain game devs? I remember posting my game on the Showcase board and never got a badge. I rarely see them, but I'm sure that a lot of people have made games and not received the badge. Am I missing something?

Commercial release. I dont know that selling it yourself to friends and family counts.

By "Full Release" I just thought it meant it was finished. Should be a little bit more descriptive, I feel.

@Muzzles56 :- You don't get a badge automatic if you finished a game you have to put forward your game to a mod so then they can decide if you worthy of the badge.

The mod the puts it forward where I think there's a vote by all the mods if you have the badge or not.

Moderators or a TGC official award Badges at their discretion in consideration of many factors. For example : if you released 100 full games but have been a naughty person member having been involved at any time in bad behaviours of one kind or another at these forums then you still may never ever get a badge.

Records are kept of members bad behaviours, warnings and various other moderations such as bans and so on and may count against such awards amongst other things for a very long time. Good general behaviour is an absolute necessity if you want a badge, unless of course you are a pledger which currently entitles you to a pledgers badge. Any badge awards can be removed at any time by Mods or TGC so they are not necessarily forever if someone falls into misbehaviours following receiving and awarded badge.

Badges can be awarded by any single Moderator in unilateral decision and sometimes are or have been at any time but most often such is done with some Mod group concensus and agreement.

Hope that helps clarify.

To add to Uman; we could revisit some of the verbiage in the badge descriptions and see if any need further clarification.

Why am I convinced there was a badge for commercial release (thought this was it) and in fact seem to remember one for multiple commercial release?

My bad, I didn't mean to mislead.

Don't I deserve that badge? (7 times over) ?
Marc Steene and I teamed up on the most popular game in FPSC history which we later made commercial. I also have never been banned and only slapped once or twice I think...

There are a number of badges which would relate specifically to making an FPSC game of some standing. e.g. complete functional game.

FPSC Developer : Few of these are to be seen.

FPSC BOTB Developer : More than one version matching the BOTB structures.

There is no specific badge award designed for a Commercial Game or Application development or release specifically.

Some badges are product/user/forum board specific. e.g. FPSC, AppGameKit, DBP and so on and some are for general application across any of these.

There are some badges which have rarely been given out or never as yet I believe though they may be so rare I have just not seen them applied so I may be wrong there.

All told there are quite a lot of different badges across all Boards/products and a great deal of time, skill and effort was given to developing these and the system in place to operate them/it by Mod members, TGC and or others to which we are all grateful I am sure.

There have been and still are many deserving members I am sure and anyone deserving will get one eventually I am sure.

Hope that helps.

I second that. You truly do deserve it. I think Marc has it though doesn't he?

Guess I'm out of luck all the way round.

Personally I think that some members do deserve those badges. I like having a badge for the kickstarter, but it is not what drives me on this forum. There are some that should have them and those I wonder why and how, but not my concern.

My focus is what can I do to help out when I can on the forum, without overworking myself in the process. Day job has to come first.

So, I guess what I am saying is, what is a badge compared to a lot of 3d media to be shared in everyone's games or even have a game that you can say, " I made that! " and give it to friends and family or even sell it?

Make sense?

Clearly badge awards should as with anything else be something which has a fairness about.

If not fair then its not being appropriately managed. I am not here saying that such is the case but just stating that in all things fairness should be seen to be the case.

I don't think anyone disagrees.

Personally my involvement at the forums is and has been fairly low key for a long time. I tend to only actually spend time dealing with or commenting on what I see as major issues when they occasionally appear and are appropriate for me to be involved with. So tend to only look at a restricted number of threads or posts that may be a threat to TGC or the forums in some way or vice versa may help both. All other times though I am active here almost every day I stay out of the Forums so users can enjoy them without me hanging about annoying them

I don't really follow who's doing what a great deal in terms of game making, media making and whatever else users do to help the community on a day to day basis.

The forums and reasonably well behaved these days and I don't think there are many where past behaviours would have any bearing on badge awards.

Badges would not be awarded normally to those that either ask for them directly or been seen to be awarded from any pressure put on anyone from an individual or groups of members. If Genuinely deserved then that may be a different matter.

They should be awarded on merit only though any concerns of members here and elsewhere regarding Badge awards I am sure will be duely considered and thus there is little more for me personally to add here.
