The msanual says :

Well I consider myself pretty handy with a search engine, but I can't find a single one. So does anyone have some sites to suggest?

cgshader.org has a few, although they're in cg format and need a little tweaking to work as .fx they're good

to be honest that's the only real source i know of on the net, there isn't exactly an abundance and people aren't very helpful there ... i should know i'm one of the senior members and i gave up bothering to help people there long long long ago lol

however you might be interested that alot of games that use shaders tend to include them and name them something else.

NFS Underground for instance renames them .fxc
so they're very easily obtainable from real games.

lemme know if there is anything in particular you need help with.
i was toying with the idea of starting up a sit that offered working shaders (for like a nominal free ofcourse) so they could just plugin and play. But no one seemed interested so, ya know not enough possible business to make it worth my while wasting alot of thankless hours ya know

Does these shadars actualy work yet?
I tried Nvidias ones (I downloaded the complete CG shader kit) with Dark Basic months ago, and couldnt get a single one working.

I posted here and people said for me to wait for the next version of DB.
Well..there hasnt been one yet
There isnt a DB archieve of working FX shadars either (like they said there would be)

I dont mean to be rude, DBP is a wonderfull development system, but im starting to get a wheeee bit impatient of not being able to use one of the features advertised on the back of the box.

Interesting. I've got a few games installed, so I'll go through and take a look and see what I can find.

I found the CGShaders site, but I'm not familiar with shaders, so I wouldn't have a clue how to go about converting from .cg to .fx. Not yet anyway. Now that I know it's possible, I might read up on them.

It's a real shame no one was interested in your site proposal. I would certainly have taken you up on that. Not only for the shaders themselves, but I would imagine that having a bunch of shaders which can be plugged-in would be the best way to learn.

Thanks for the info, time to read and explore, I think.

The .cgfx and .fx formats are identical. There is no "conversion" from one to the other because they are one and the same. That being said, a lot of what you find on cgshaders.org isn't a "plug and play" thing. You'll need the media that comes with the demos for them to work and look the way they are suppose to.

if you have DirectX9 SDK, there are few .fx files there that you could test out. Nothing major, and the bumpmapping & such are the same as in DBpro. But there are things like different lighting methods, crappy Glow fx and others. There is the .fx editor too... let's you code & edit them and see the effects in almost real-time.
