CGI and not even good CGI at that.

Flying upside down without changing the blades' direction of rotation? I don't think so.

Even if that video is CGI (I'm not sure), tricks like that are pretty well known within the enthusiast scene... everything he did there is possible. Here's a few examples:

^ Except those have added gadgets (boosters etc) that make it somewhat different from a regular RC helicopter. A regular one could never do those tricks.

Yes, and the people flying those have years and years of practice. Not saying it's easy or even possible to just pick up, just showing that what the guy in the first video did is possible.

[EDIT] The original youtube video seems to be pretty legitimate, that channel has a large amount of other similar videos. I don't see why anyone would go through the effort to produce a CGI video when they have many other videos of the same stunts on their channel. My opinion is it's real.

Severely overpowered model and absolutely possible. I've watched (IRL) people who are almost as good when I worked Cairns AAF on Oahu. I've watched them do loops, rolls and fly upside-down. And no, you don't need to reverse the main rotor, you just need to over-pitch the blades past flat-pitch.

CGI? Possible but not needed.

It's real. I've been to an RC airplane/helicopter show once and one of those helicopter guys did the exact same thing. It was actually quite awesome.

It is not CGI. Also here is google-translation of the current top-comment:
Quote: "And why the real helicopters don't fly like that?"

...
Quote: "Pressures on the base of the blades so much more. When the required strength and stiffness of the blade in a predetermined fixed position can not make a quick responsiveness to their management. This helicopter blades on the opposite slope of the change in a split second. If so turn a real blade, it curl. For similar reasons, for example, only small flying insects quickly, and large birds do not fly like insects. In this small bird, hummingbirds fly like insects."

I literally just discovered this guy a few days ago.

My dad's friend came over to the house and he's a bit of a fanatic with these little hellies, and he showed me some of this guy's videos. The guy brought over 3 of his own so he could show off his tricks. He broke two of them, and we had to chop through some bushes and throw things at a tree to get one of them down. He still needs some practice I think...

Looks kind of dangerous. I mean, being hit by the helicopter's blades surely hurts a little...

To be fair I thought this was CGI as well. The whole movement just reminded me too much of this:

Also the shadow doesn't seem to match the street lights and the whole "lawnmower" thing looked really unreal. But then again... why would they bother making such a long CGI video with stuff they could actually do?

You don't change the direction of rotation silly. You change the pitch of the blades, which indeed does make it possible for it to blow upwards. RPM is held constant most of the time with this configuration.
