Hello TGC community, been a while since I ever posted on here. I usually can search and find the answer I'm looking for. However I need assistance this time and I'm wondering how to make a multitextured terrain mesh. Let me explain exactly what I mean.

Alot of games today have terrains that textures are just painted directly to them. Some textures overlapping one another making a nice blended professional look. Can anyone here point me to a tutorial, or maybe some examples/videos or anything that could show me how this is achieved. I would much appreciate anything in regards to this.

Is this something I need to be able to code to achieve this effect, or is this all done by the 3d editor or both?
(attached an image I made of what i'm trying to achieve.)

Programs I use currently:
Dark Basic Pro
3DS Max 2014

Thanks in advanced.

its done with a blend mapping shader. blitzterrain can do it, and there are several .fx files floating around the forums for it as well. i think there is one in the ultimate shader pack (wip board?), and Evolved's Advanced Lighting includes one as well with some pretty good usage examples

sorry for the lack of links, not a home atm

Thank you for the reply, I'll be doing some research. And it's no problem, I'll post back if I figure it out.

also you can do the multi texture making a 3d model with as many limbs as different materials. With uvw coordinates on two channels, and transparencies. and specific methods of texturing. If you are interested I'll explain the procedure. I will be attentive to this thread
