My question is at the "intersection" of DarkBasic and FPSC matters.

I have been using DarkBasic for about a year and I have created some applications; I am reasonably happy with it. I have been looking at FPSC for a while but haven't done any serious projects with it. In general I like FPSC a lot but I am not happy with one aspect of it, namely its scripting language.

Let me phrase this another way: if in FPSC I could script my entities in DarkBasic, then FPSC would be perfect for me. But as far as I know this is not possible -- or am I missing something here? Or maybe FPSC reloaded will have this functionality?

Conversely, is there some kind of Scene Editor for DarkBasic, in which you can introduce NPC's in the scene and attach to each entity its own script written in DarkBasic?

I have looked for DarkBasic scene editors but did not find much. Mapscape is a good effort but I could not find way in it to introduce and script NPS's.

Thanks in advance for any feedback to the above

Thanasis

FPSC does have the ability to script players and events using an FPI script. You might have more luck asking about it in the FPSC Scripts forum, rather than the DBP forum.

Quote: "Conversely, is there some kind of Scene Editor for DarkBasic,"

Only FPSC will do it all. There are a number of level editors, but none of them will do it all as you want unless you create your own.

Yes, i understand that fpsc has its own scripting language. I also knowthat it has many more features than the ones listed inthe fpsc manual. Still some features are missing (to the best of my knowledge). E.g. file input/output. And the fsa slant is neat but a little too exotic for me. Like i said, if i could write the scripts in dark basic, have arbitrary number of variables, arrays and file I/O, I would be really happy.

You could. The source for FPSC is available, you can do whatever you want. You can add whatever script support you wanted.

Several years back someone wrote a LUA plugin for DBPro. I doubt it's still supported but you can give it a look:

Another option for scripting within DBP is to use a Lua scripting plugin. Lua is a mature and lightweight language that's capable of doing almost everything DBP can do and maybe even more. Just search Lua in the forum search and you should find some threads about it.

WTLD has been put on indefinite hold.
A new project is under initial development now.

There are two lua plugins available. Unity which is sold by TGC, and Barnskys, which is free.

Ok, the lua plugins look promising. Thank you all. By the way, what is the relation of the lua plugin to unity the game engine?
