One thing that none of the manuals really go into is how to get the most out of using the project space at the left of the screen for really big projects. I did a search for threads on this subject but didn't find any. Are there any good tutorials out there for learning how to use that part of DBPro?

The most useful feature of that imo is that you can compile media files into your application so the end user doesn't see all your "crapobject.x" files. Just set project type to "media" and import the assets in the media tab and they will become part of the .exe.

Also make your project start as "fulldesktop" so it always runs at native resolution. Or better yet, "hidden", then you can load settings before bringing up the application window.

Also if you're doing a really big project, it is extremely useful to put your subroutines n things in separate source files, you can do this using the menu on the left side of the screen.

One thing I still haven't learned, though, and isn't in the manual that I've seen -- how do you call subroutines from a separate source file?

It was kind of hard for me to get it working. As I recall the compiler just puts the source of all the files together, one after the other, before it parses any code. So you could put your function declarations in one file and call the function in another and I think it would work.

Mostly, I just wish that the manual gave some sort of tutorial on how to use the project space. Right now I still don't know what I don't know...

The same as calling them not in the same source file.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because combined it's over 600x120

Like my old programming teacher used to say, "Don't think, just code.".

One other question -- under the Properties tab, when it says "encrypt media," does that mean that it encrypts all media that is called from the program or do I have to import the media directly into the project? Because when I try to import files, it only lets me import DBA files.

You have to import the media, but you do it from the media tab, not the file menu. Personally, I think it's a waste of time.

Ohhhh, got it. I never noticed that there was a media tab. It was hidden.

Excellent wisdom here. Thanks for mentioning this. Don't stop there, hide the window when closing the app so the window disappears faster for the user. This is applicable for Apps and Games.
