I have been really impressed by DoNotTrackMe and MaskMe, both made by Abine, so I wanted to share them here. What plug-ins have impressed you lately?

Privacy & Security
* DoNotTrackMe — Prevents websites from tracking your activity. It even stops Facebook from monitoring you through pages that contain "like" buttons.
* MaskMe — Protects your personal information by generating masked email accounts and passwords whenever you are required to give these details.

I have noticed that the ad-blocker for FF seems to be blocking ALL ads on my Pandora account. It's been song after song, without interruption for a few days now.

That is really weird... I guess it may be one of those "cirtain countries don't get ads"...

Also, regarding adblock on youtube, there are a lot of people that do youtube as a fulltime job and ads being their only revenue stream. If you use adblock, they don't get any money from your views. Personaly I have adblock dissabled on most sites since it usualy heplps fund the site/content.

That is true, but I don't think youtube help the issue. They don't provide any options for the types of ads you receive or when you receive them, they don't even structure their URLs so that each content creator has a subdomain that can be excluded from ad-block by people who want to support particular content creators but block the majority of ads. (I've sent youtube a feedback message with that suggestion.)

I find that extremely hard to believe; and it is all their fault that these Ad Blockers exist in the first place; they exploited our 'personal computing' to the point a solution had to be developed. I have had my fair share of abominable disastrous attempts to 'advertise' to me, only to do nothing other than irritate me.

I have an idea, it may be great or it may be terrible. Basically, on Youtube you would be able to choose between a normal mode where you would see ads before videos, or you could choose a 'points' mode where you would go and view ads tailored to your interests and build up points as you watched them. The points would then be used to watch videos.

Imagine if you went to the cinema to watch "Despicable me 2", and movie breaks several times for ad. Like it? Why not support cinema this way? Payed for a ticket you say? But you pay for interent too.

But what movies on YouTube break for ads in the middle? None of them do. You see the ad at the beginning, like when you go to the cinema and you see several ads before the movie.

Very popular youtube shows, ~15-20 min long with one or two(!) ad breaks, not taking intro ad and pop-ups in count.

Here is a quick example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRn2fIgC0DM
Intro break ad, 10 of 16 seconds are skippable.
Middle break ad, 16 of 16 seconds are unskippable.

You don't pay for the content of the internet, you pay your ISP to allow you to use their hardware to connect to a group of other similar networks which is known as the internet.

If you watch a movie in the cinema, you pay both the cinema and the movie producers some money. If you watch a youtube video without ads, the creators or the "cinema" (youtube) don't get any money.

And I know that some channels put ads in the middle of their videos, I havnt seen anyone putting 2 in a 20 min video though. But are they realy that annoying, usually you can skip them within 5 seconds and if you can't, they won't play longer than 15 seconds. Compare that to TV where a "one hour" show is actually 40 minutes of actual content and 20 minutes of ads.

A quick google search found this.

This page (linked in the previous will allow you to change the autogenerated interests which should give you ads related to those interests.

No pay = no youtube. You paying to view content of the whole internet. It's just the other point of view.

I understand why you like ads on youtube. It allows you to "support" videomakers without spending any money. That's [no offence] so hebrew. Donation is the ultimate thing. Just give $10 to your favorite videomaker to show your appreciation.

My friend is a video maker on YouTube and it is his full time job, however he also uses Adblock plus too! But I think that a small advert is okay at the beginning of a YouTube video is okay but I don't agree with adverts in the middle of a YouTube video and this is why I use Adblocker.

By the way - there is a version of adblock with a list of "fair" ads, that doesn't bother user therefore not blocked.

Youtube does not allow the content creators to state how much they earn from ads.

BS. we already know the people invited to some YT events earn in excess of $100,000 not even going to bother searching for the article...

But I think some people on there really create some good content but many quit early... shame really...

You are not allowed to disclose how much you earn. Doesn't stop people guessing though!

This website is quite good at estimating income

HTTPS Everywhere (uses secure connections where possible)
NoScript (Blocks all Javascript, Java and Flash unless whitelisted - woo, no more flash!)
Reddit Enhancement Suite (extremely useful extension which streamlines Reddit)
Firesheep (demonstrate to people why they should be using HTTPS when possible)

Firefox settings are set to use the Do not Track extension.

As far as blocking ads go, I thought the person only gets paid when you click on the ad. And since I never click on ads, ever, blocking them doesn't hurt them any more than me ignoring it.

Wilderbeast, I used Firesheep before too. But it never seemed to be able to do what it claims.

Most ads pay for views and not clicks. With youtube I believe that they get money if you watch the whole ad, or atleast longer than before the skip button appears. But you never have to click the ad to "give" them money
