So I'm trying to write a tech demo for a project that I'm working on, and I've attached a screenshot describing what I'm talking about, since words are escaping me for the moment.

In the bottom right of the corner, there's a big box that says "(A) MORE" on it. It's an on-screen cue to tell the user that there's more conversation to be had, and they can access it by pressing the "(A)" button.

I think it looks like trash (besides the crappy mockup). I personally feel that having a description for every on-screen control or action is rubbish, and that it takes up more space on the screen then is useful. The exception would be if you're teaching someone how to do something (involved complex game) or what you're asking them to do wouldn't come intuitively.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I'd ditch the "more" and just have the "a" promptly, but other than that nice. One idea, maybe set a delay timer, and after a certain period of time display a message advising that a advances, or change it to the "a more" you have now.

If there is more text to come, end the text visible on screen with "..." to suggest there's more - that's how a lot of major games do it.

.. or have it scrollable with an Ok at the end.

I'm not sure about that little girl giving her number to someone she just met though

That sound's a lot like Carly Rae to me... Damn, why did I just admit to knowing that

Haha, when I code I just use random pop-culture references or random things for testing text. I have gigabytes of stock photos I can use for any project... that girl was the first one I found.

As for the ("..."). Forgot that games do that. Otherwise, I was looking, some RPG's don't do anything (Golden Sun), or others just have a flashing arrow meaning that there's more to come.

I just dislike the idea of having on-screen controls always appearing on the screen. Thanks for throwing ideas around.
