So, I recently turned 19 and for my birthday i got my very first tattoo. It pays homage to THE best Neue Deutsche Harte" metal band ever: Rammstein.

Have a look here:

I never liked band tattoos. I didn't know Rammstein was even still around.

Oooh I love Rammstein. I saw them just over a week ago and it was awesome. Awesome choice for a tatt.

My first (and currently only) tattoo was the Dharma Wheel from Buddhism done in the style of In Flames...who are actually a death metal band.

Yes, I love that DVD. I'm a big fan of their older stuff, so it's awesome to watch. The performance I saw just over a week ago was very awesome as well, they put a lot of effort into the pyro and of course, the homoeroticism. I learned that the frontman is not actually gay. Watching him and the keyboardist do the song Buck Dich, was interesting. He was kind enough to 'relieve' himself over the audience after their act. Well, it was fake at least.

Also, setting people on fire and their custom flame throwers is hardly anything to argue with. Easily one of the best stage performers, if you don't mind sex and pyromania rolled into a single show.

at some point, i think band-related tattoos are completely fine.

my first, based on iron maiden's piece of mind album, was an easy decision where they'd been around for some time and, even if the members would have moved on, the notion behind the tattoo would not have.

ie, maiden had been, and will continue to be, maiden (to anyone who grew up in the 80's, atleast ).

the pic doesn't do it much justice (it's a mess). the lines are stll pretty sharp, up close and in person. i boosted where i could to make it somewhat discernable...

advice: even when it's overcast, the sun will tear a new tattoo apart. my mistake, wearing a tank top on day 2 with no other protection for it = a tat that looked 20 yrs old from the start (once i peeled the entire top level of skin off of it, that is).

advice #2: don't have a guy who has a warrant for his arrest start your tattoo. mine was to have color added (yellow, like the album, red on the torn flesh). by the time i was back in town, hoping to have it finished, the law had already done their job... :/

still, i appreciate it every day, and i hope you do yours

any other "first tattoos"?

Tattoo on the armpit? Looks like it, near the hairy chest.

@Johnski
I don't want to upset you by no means, but the tattoo seems to be a little bit inaccurate, moreover, it's a straight lines not even a circle... Speaking of circles, Seppuku Arts's tattoo has some flaws too. Or it is just me and the tattoos can't be so accurate?

according to "ink masters" (and similar tattoo shows that i watch occasionally), all these tattoos are seriously flawed. heh. mine cost a bottle of the artists favorite, which we finished off during the tattoo... (oh, advice #3!):/ .

under a microscope, there are plenty of tattoos that are "near" perfect. i've seen some masterpieces from true masters. but, those cost a heck of a lot more.

in the end, these are "average" and look "good" to me. get the microscope out, and, not so much. luckily, i hang out in dark places...

Mine was done by my sister, who's learning, I see the flaws, but regardless I was happy with it.

Anyways those two tattoos are simply b/w images with no shading, so it will be easy to edit the flaws anytime! No worries.

Here is what can't be fixed:

Rammstein is no big deal here in Germany, its Country of origin.

But I heard in the US ist another Story, maybe because the People there don´t understand Rammsteins song texts.

Yes they are. In the metal scene anyway.
I also see countless cars with their insigna or name on them around here. (German border to luxemburg)
I'm not that big on them myself tough. I like a few songs tough.
I'd never get a band tattoo anyway. Perfect strangers who make music...well! And its also possible that in 4 years from now you'll be into Beethoven or some other genre and dont have anything to do with Rammstein anymore. Human beings change, tattoos stay.

@MrHandy: talk about being tainted for life ...and is that secondlast one on a forehead?!

This might sound that I am against tattoos in general, but I am not. I can prove it with my little Wolf tattoo.

Edit: Withdrawn. Its a little private and makes it very easy to I.D. me during summer

The picture is a couple years old. Its a little bleached now

Yes, Rammstein had a big crowd at Wacken and most of the people I were headbanging with were German. I would say in the metal scene in Germany, Rammstein are a big deal - not necessarily everybody's cup of tea, but will sell plenty of tickets when they play a venue.

Erm, I know tastes can sometimes change, but I think there are some artists who'll stay with you for life, unless your tastes really do change drastically. But even if you stop listening to a band, your tattoo is a reminder in your life. For example, my brother's In Flames tattoo means more to him than just a band, but to a single experience associated with it and for him it was a very memorable and amazing experience.

I think of course, if you're going to have one, you really need to think about it, rather than do it willy nilly.

I think I might regret a band tattoo if suddenly that band did something to completely ruin their name for me. Imagine if you got a Gary Glitter tattoo 20 years ago? Or Jimi Saville's face? What if your favourite band become massive supporters of Neo-Nazism?

I think it's unlikely to happen, but if it did, it might make me reconsider showing it to people. So I don't have anything against band tattoos, but just, like with any tattoo, be sure it's what you want.

My impressions only where taken from their tourdates, as they are mostly playing in the US, also in the US they are positioned in Charts higher than they get in Germany (that was 3 years ago and I was told this by a friend of mine who is into Rammstein).

I was never in the metal Scene, so sorry if I mixed up things, what I really wanted to say is they seem to have a larger Fellowship in the US than in Germany.

Quite possibly. I don't know what yanks tend to think of them. I guess they could be more popular in the US, I suppose it wouldn't be unheard of, I mean, it seems the German band Haggard has a lot of popularity in Mexico, but less so anywhere else. *shrugs*.

I suspect we would have seen the same set (at least I doubt they would have done 2 different sets), and indeed they were amazing. A few of my friends saw them at Download, but I've not been since 2006...I am now addicted to Wacken lol. Yes, I have to speak my really bad German to get by, but it's great fun.
