Id like to know what the plans are for TGC in the future, do you plan to expand with a bigger team, more coders, anything like that?

Just interested in it thats all.

John Carmack owns a company worth over $6 million, I doubt that TGC could compete with that

If TGC would hire John Carmack, I'd move over to something else. No offence, but that is the most overrated person in the whole game dev. scene.

But he could still probably fix the dodgy BSP in Pro.

What I meant is, Is the TGC team (five men strong if im not mistaken) going to build on to the currnet team by adding new people to the company, possibly to develop the 3d engine further etc. Just a simple question.

I'm not all that convinced more men = more work done is true. That's because TGC has been small company from the start. And they probably make dbpro that way too. Massive production team doesn't really work if the individuals don't work well as a team.

We don't need to employ more full-time staff in order to create new products or continue development. There is a massive physics engine in beta testing at the moment which we'll release early next year that was 100% outsourced. Lee and Mike continue to work religiously on FPSC which in turn adds stacks of modifications to DBPro. It's all one massive cycle.

Cheers,

Rich

See, I would rather they get one project (DBP) stable before work on another is started (FPSC)

No real reason not to work on other projects. If a company wants to expand, they can't rely on one product.
Plust, dbp is pretty stable, and U6/patch6 is coming late Dec.(from what I've heard.)

Sounds like TGC is pretty stable to me.

And, as has already been stated, FPSC's development cycle is also benefiting DBP's feature set and functionality.

Thats what I was waiting to hear

The physics engine sounds cool, plus the fpsc adding to DBPro is a good feature.

I've gotta ask - what's FPSC?

And has anyone heard (beta testers or not) what the R6 will have? Will it have a new IDE, because TGC are claiming not to support the current IDE anymore.

err...it could be First Person Shooter Creator. Or it could be anything else.

Now, this physics engine. is it going to be engine meant for DBpro as an add-on (like darkmatter) or a free patch or is it infact a physics engine that works like the other systems out there.(ODE)(via dlls?)

Quote: "U6/patch6 is coming late Dec.(from what I've heard.)"

That's what people are saying, but TGC has said it will be most likely early next year.

Well regarding the patch, I'd much rather that it was released in early 04 and it was good and bugs were all fixed, than rush it for a Christmas release. That way theres less work in other updates.

And I hope the physics thing is free.

Just taking a stab at it but there's a high possibility that it will be a one-off payment Addon, I doubt it will be a large payment but it will still be a payment. I believe Lee said in one of his interviews that bug fixes and basic features would be free patches where as something like a new Physics Engine would cost.

Of course, I'm just guessing.

well, that's the Logical idea. But I'd like to know for sure now. I need to take that into account. (Might need to save some money for it)

It's all the same thing. FPSC is written with DBPro DLLs, you can't write one without patching/enhancing the other.

Rich

You'll need to save up for the physics engine. Not much, but it will cost money, yes. It's been in development for months and the current closed beta group are thrashing it around (aye Ian/Nick - expect loads of new DBPro commands for things like cloth, particles, etc.

U6 is definitely a 2004 release. We promised not to release anything "major" during the Alienware competition and U6 is major!

Cheers,

Rich

Well its nice to know that its going to be major - let's pray it sorts everything out. I have faith, I think it will.

The physics engine, will this be a .DLL? And what sort of range are we talking to save up for? £10-£30? or more?

Cheers

And he mentioned the word "Cloth"!! Hmmm, imagine coding a cloth sprite that can wrap around something, flow in the wind, etc.

VERY NICE!!
