This might be a stupid question and I'm not trying to show off and be tough or whatever but I love horror and I've never been scared (except that one time when I watched Event Horizon when I was about 5) by horror games or movies.

I have a friend who couldn't finish Amnesia: The Dark Descent because he was too scared. I finished it in about 6 hours and I was laughing while running away from the monsters.

I played Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark and games like that when I was about 10 and they never scared me.

But then, at last, I hear of a game coming out called Outlast. It's meant to be super scary and the way horror is meant to be, so I preordered it and it unlocked at 3AM in Australia, a suitable time to play a horror game.

1 hour later... meh. I like the game but it's just not scaring me! I'm a little disappointed to be honest.

getting scared by media is kind of like hypnotism: you pretty much have to want it to happen and put yourself in a suceptible state of mind that not only allows it, but facilitates it. ive got the same problem.

Amnesia: i found it interesting and occasionaly tense, but it never scared me. that sense of tension/expectancy is about all most games and movies can stir in me, fear wise.

the worst scene i can remember is in Hannibal where the guy eats his own brain, and that was still just freakin creepy make your skin crawl, not 'scary'.

I just simply do not agree - I get scared easily, easily with no effort put into it. and - tbh, if something happens that is scary - in a media where you dont expect it, then it becomes much more scary - which essentially makes this argument... nullified for me atleast.

I played through amnesia - played it with a friend or else i wouldnt have finished it

Can we draw a distinct line between "horror" and "slash em up"? It's a common misconception that eating brains and cutting people up in horrible ways is horror. It's not.

I'm kinda the same, too desensitized - I mean my parents let us watch whatever we liked, V, Dr Who, every Nightmare on Elm St, Alien... heck it was the 80's, most 'kids' movies like the Labyrinth, Never Ending Story, Dark Crystal, they were creepier than the horror films back then.

These days it's pointless for me to watch a horror movie and expect any sort of reaction, especially these new paranormal 'ohh scary little girl doing the crab, ohh scary little girl in a mirror, ohh scary little girl just go to hell!

In my opinion, there hasn't been a moderately scary horror film since 28 Days Later.

I am the one who knocks...

This is probably why;

I watched that because my older brother wanted to watch it, I was about 16 or something.

That scared the bjesus out of me when I was young.

Watching scary stuff at an early age desensitizes you to it, but it can have repercussions. If you ever fancy buying an automatic weapon or have violent thoughts please seek help

It all depends on how strong certain emotions are in a person, which determine if they will be scared or not. Most of the time though, I think people are being "jump scared" which is more shock than fear.

I don't really play many horror games so that probably explains why I have never been scared by a game, with one exception:

There is one part of 'The Last of Us' that had me scared, I was playing alone late at night when I done the hotel basement chapter, if that does not scare you then nothing will

Coincidently, Fuzz has that game in his sig so I guess it never scared him

Pathetic person.

Me too! But that was the reason that I have dropped the walkthrough! It's stupid game.

It didn't scare me but it's one of my favourite films.

When I played The Last of Us I never thought "man this is scary", I was thinking "man this game is awesome!" It had a really nice atmosphere but I was never scared. I think maybe because what's the point of being scared when if I die I can just reload a save.

Don't worry! I live in Australia so I couldn't get one even if I wanted to

I can't really think of... when I watch 28 days later, I don't remember being scared. Gripped, yes! And, it's DEFINITELY also one of my favorite films.

Maybe you actually are scared, but you just mixed up what the feeling is!

Interesting but I don't think so! haha

I mean, I'm not bothered by gore and violence and stuff in games or movies, but when I see a nasty wound in real life or a picture then I shudder! I don't faint or need to vomit or anything, I just think "damn that would suck."

Maybe I've just played so many games and watched so many movies that it doesn't bother me, unless it's real of course :p

It's obvious Fuzz has transcended from the plane that is our naive palette of primitive emotions. Not only have his eyes been opened to the horrors and perversions embodied in our video games and movies, his very soul has been opened to the grotesque ways of our society. By playing video games, Fuzz has obtained the ability to surpass any and all aberrations. One might assume his endowment to engage in flatulent fracas is fortunate, but at what cost? Video games played by Fuzz have contributed to his faculty to tolerate corrupted kinks. A video game played by Fuzz and a single grain of sand in a vast desert are mutually equivalent in relevance. Heed the genuineness of Fuzz playing video games, for he has metamorphosed into the ultimate being; a being so celestial and divine, the existence could have only been forged through wistful investment in a lifetime of playing video games of utmost extravagance.
