Any ideas how I can stop Windows from repeatedly notifying and installing the same three "important updates". Took me a while beofre I twigged what was happening. Here's a snapshot of the update history - the top dozen or so entries speak for themselves.

To top it off, the troubleshooting button wouldn't work - it kept trying to download and open a file which windows doesn't recognize!

I've tried rebooting and cleaning the registry but it still keeps installing the same three updates.

Any ideas? (This machine is using Vista.)

The best way is to disable updates at all and install only service packs. Otherwise you will get accumulative perfomance slowdown in addition to installation bugs.

I had similar problem on XP when it endlessly tried to install language pack to .Net 3.0 when I had .Net 3.5 and it contained all previous packs. It's just because win have sooo many updates that installates in random order so it has to get such bugs.

In the updates lit, right click them and select hide update... [on the Windows Update screen click the blue text]

And then click check for updates on the left

I'm having the exact same problem, I've just left them waiting to be updated, I'm sure this will be corrected shortly, don't hide the updates just in case.

I reject your reality and substitute my own...

***Update*** ()

It seems to be a widespread issue. I wonder if MS will bother to report back.

problems with recent windows updates

I notice that was posted on answers.microsoft.com. Looks more like several unanswered questions to me.

How long do we wait for this to be resolved? And how will we know?

Yeah, the same three MS Office/Excel updates give the same problem there.

They usually fix these issues fast, been a while since I used Vista, I have installed it recently but I only have a 32bit variant...

Glad to see this is now resolved, can a MOD mark this as Resolved?

Ah wrong forum for that lol [Just messing]
