Now this is odd. My girlfriend just bought a Chromebook, we also live in the US. When she opened it up she sees this type of keyboard:

See attachment..

Not only is it slightly off from what we're use to, the keys don't even match what is written on them when pressed. It's actually kinda funny.

I told her she could do a trade in, but she's keeping it because it's 'special' lol.

So any ideas what part of the world uses this keyboard layout?

It's a AZERTY keyboard. Judging by the convenient symbols, probably something of Latin origin.

It's actually French, which you can tell by the "échap" button.

French is a descendant of Latin.

It's used in France and a few other countries I believe. It gives the wrong output because the OS keyboard language is set to English.

Also, do you want a tutorial on how to resize images?

So is English, to a certain extent.

I wasn't saying that it wasn't of Latin origin, I was just specifying it as French.

English is not descended from Latin, we use a lot of Latin words but the language is Germanic.

What do they use in Quebec (which isn't too far away I guess )?

Edit: To clarify (in view of preceding few posts ): I was referring to the keyboard not the language.

The language for the keyboard layout in windows might have still been selected for english.

^This

Just go to Keyboard in Control panel and change the input language

Keyboards use the same layout, the keys are just mapped differently to different symbols...

I could be wrong though as that is simply my assumption...

French Keyboard:

Interesting thing: here in luxemburg you have a good change of running into azerty and qwertz layouts within the same company.

So your WASD movement keys are actually zqsd. Something to consider when righting software documentation translations.

That 7 megapixel image is so large I can only see across to the D key without scrolling.

...Yo momma SO BIG, that she took up even more space than that image!

Sorry, had to.

Interestingly, I had no idea there was more than the QWERTY layout... I don't know why I didn't really realize that before, but now I know!

I use Dvorak and it's really irritating when games don't let you rebind keys!
Every piece of software ever written should have rebind-able keys! That should be a law.

I hate programming re-bindable keys, it's almost as frustrating as writing a sokoban parser. But yes, I agree with you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Latin_keyboard_layouts_by_country_in_Europe_map.PNG

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#QWERTY-based_layouts_for_Latin_script

Hope that clears that up

I'm on one of those 'qwertz' layouts myself, so yes, that is a thing here in Germany.

(And btw, if you'd followed TheComet's link in the second post of the thread you'd actually have seen the graphic linked above )

------
PS: I guess Dvorak might be useful if you only type with one hand? I almost always type with my left hand (yes, even right now) which might not be the fastest or most convenient way, but I kinda got used to it
(or 95% left hand, the right hand can operate Backspace/Enter/Shift if it happens to be available )

That's what I was "insinuating"... My right hand happens to be on the mouse right now, and my left hand is typing this here, that's all. And if my right arm decides it is a good time to randomly fall off in the next few minutes I shall still be able to inform y'all about that.

Seriously though, I just never learned how to type the "right" way with all ten fingers, and couldn't be bothered to learn it either, so I made up my own way of typing.

You leave your right hand on the mouse the whole time whilst typing messages? Isn't that a little inefficient?

Seriously, if you're not using 4 hands, you're not being an efficient type-r.

Sorry about the image hah, my g/f sent it to me and I didn't bother to open it before posting.

She decided to trade it in, bummer, was actually funny to type with.

Why are you using 640x480? Or possibly 800x600?

Lol it fits on my screen without any scrolling, horizantal or vertical.

Oh wait, nevermind. It was zoomed out somehow. Zooming in I can see from one side of the image to the "m" key. Lol.

But it is a very nice and interesting screen. Here, I made a thread about it: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=207955&b=2

But what's the native resolution? Chances are it's just scaling it down to its native resolution.

Left Screen old crappy DELL monitor terrible scaling even at full 1280x1024 but full 32bit colour

Right Screen good scaling but old crappy Sony monitor and also at 1280x1024 but only a 30bit panel... [I know right? I got it cheap anyway in a hurry]

The Centre screen is 2048x1152 native excellent scaling, crisp sharp and when using 1366x768 super crisp but bad aspect conversion, ends up letterboxing... but 1080p is great, I keep it at native resolution at all times, even when playing games... Dell 23" running over HDMI via my GTX 480
