I would think that there are two issues here.
1. As a general rule you can redistribute textures that you completely re-make. That does not include something that you re-color or change portions of. You must make a new texture with no part of the old texture remaining. As I said, that is a general rule, and you should contact the artist to get permission and clarification.
2. You are attempting to remake textures originally made by the undisputed "Master" of weapons. Good luck!
