It has been past 7 years since the game vanished from history. but my childhood memory still poking my brain every bit of second. it is a game called "Newfortress" turn based artillery game(the company was most advanced in that genre)

In the installed folder, I found all the sprite which were used in the game.
the size of the files ranges from 2kb to 40kb.

I have made .zip file of that folder
http://www.mediafire.com/download/4omcc7vh4gkf97d/Character.zip - 2.1MB
http://www.mediafire.com/download/6d8886tldx1tgrd/missile_a_fall.spr
(sample)

My problem is that I need a program which translates the .SPR file into an image. So that I can make .gif files and use them to make the original game using the program called "Game Maker"(game tool). there is another format called .IMG in the folder but in this topic i want to concentrate on the file format .spr.

there is a file called FC and its format was .pdb. I don't know what it is but i think it will help when ripping files.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/69wp9ynll1hj49f/FC.pdb

if you need other files or full installer , please don't hesitate to request.

If someone successfully translate .spr file and also format .lmg.
i will give my devotion of my 3d modeling and animation skils for free of charge. Even though i'am not that advanced in 3ds max(3d modeling program) within 1 or two years i can assure you that i will be.
this will be useful for people making 3d games or presenting resumes as ordinary cost for making 3d model and animating them cost $100 or more.

here is reference site which will be useful.

The IMG format might load with Paint Shop Pro 9 - which I think can be downloaded for free. It has a lot of historic formats that it supports, so it's a good package to have installed regardless.

The .SPR format, well it might be a derivative of IMG, like an IMG file laid out in a specific way, raw IMG data - or it could be a specific format just for the game.

EDIT: Looking into it more, it appears that the SPR format is some header info, sprite image count, size etc, and compressed image data after that. It's probably not the sort of thing you can rip from... Sorry to say but I don't think you'll get far with the SPR format - you'd probably save time in the long run by screen grabbing, or even making new visuals for yourself, based on the original. Even if you can only manage some boxes, you could always pass it onto an artist later.
It can be tricky to even identify files like that. Often, people will just rip the graphics from screenshots the slow way, because there's no easy file support.

I miss the old days, when you could just reset your computer and use a program to pick through the memory - I nabbed so many cool sprites this way. It's one of those cases where progress is making your job more difficult.

Ahh, good old Kevin Picone, I vaguely remember this, but I had no idea it was for the same format.

Had a quick look and they do seem to be different formats, so the loader the uw boards isn't any help.
