I'm working on my second round Intel App Innovation entry, a quiz show game. Obviously, I'll need lots of questions. Can anyone spare a few moments to help me out with a round of questions? This is what I need...

1). A topic.
Good Topic Example - Music of the Eighties (quite general)
Bad Topic Example - Dire Strait's best hits (too specific, if you don't know Dire Straits you can't get any points in the round)

2). 5 or preferably 10 questions
Good Question Example - What year did World War II start?
Bad Topic Example - What day did World War II start?
Lots of people know the year, hardly anyone knows the day.

3). The correct answer
Good Answer Example - Brazil
Bad Answer Example - Brazil in the continent of South America.
Needs to be concise

4). 2 or preferably 3 wrong, easy answers
Good Example for easy wrong answers(for WWII question) - 1929, 1949, 1959

5). 2 or preferably 3 wrong, harder answers
Good Example for hard wrong answers(for WWII question) - 1938, 1940, 1942

6). Interesting fact
example: WWII was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million people, from more than 30 different countries, serving in military units.

What is a good question?
It's a question that people have got a reasonable chance of knowing, or being able to take an educated guess. Writing questions is not about telling everyone that you know something that they don't! The "Fact" is a chance to tell them something new...and show off a little bit

Thank you to anyone who can help out. I have attached a spreadsheet template, if you are able to use this it would help even more.

I will be posting a WIP as soon as I have visuals. At the moment I'm working on the engine, and it doesn't look very exciting.

Hey, I wrote a few questions and made a google doc for this. The idea is anyone with the link should be able to create their own sheet and protect it (maybe I have to protect it as the owner I don't know).

I don't know what level you are aiming for with these questions. I don't think you can simply give easy and hard answers, the questions themselves should be rated on difficulty. Aside from some questions just being harder no matter what answers you write (without being absurd) it can be really hard or even impossible to think up six incorrect answers to a question.

I presume you are giving four possible answers. It seems better to me to give three options, that way you can adjust the difficulty better and don't have so many obvious false answers.

I'd like to see a quiz game where you type the answers instead of multiple choice. Another level up would be an autonomous quiz master that scours the web for information and forms its own questions.

Thanks Libervurto, and thanks for your feedback. Here's some responses...

The idea is that you can make different levels of difficulty from the same set of questions:

Easy - All easy wrong answers.
Hard - All hard wrong answers
Medium - 1 Easy and 1 Hard wrong answer

I agree, this is the hardest part!

The game will be configurable, from no displayed answers, up to 4 displayed answers. It's quite possible in the future that I may incorporate questions sets that only have the correct answer, but are limited in game options.

This application is designed for quizmasters in clubs and pubs.

Nice idea!

Any reason you can't use something like this?:

Not sure about copyright issues with quiz questions though.

Learning DarkGDK, then AppGameKit!

Most of those questions are garbage.

Quote: "22. When told that the people had no bread,
what was Marie Antionette`s reply?

Answer: "let them eat cake." "

Wrong, Marie Antoinette (spelled wrong in the question) did not say that.

Quote: "23. Specifically, on which part of your body
would you find your patella ?

Answer: knee."

The patella IS the kneecap. The question should be rewritten.

Quote: "26. Traditionally, what type of wood do Rolls
Royce put on the dashboards of their cars?

Answer: Walnut."

Who cares?

Quote: "27. How many vowels are there in the word
unprepossessing ?

Answer: 5."

What kind of a question is that?

Quote: "35. What world famous card features a centurion
on its face ?

Answer: American Express."

Ugh.

Quote: "55. Name the ship which began its epic voyage
on 6th September 1620 ?

Answer: Mayflower."

Where to!? I'm sure there was more than one ship setting sail on that day.

Thanks for the suggestion DBAlex, I've had another similar site suggested. I think these sites are a good place to get ideas from, but as Libervurto says, you then have to check the answers and filter out the rubbish. For example, a question about the Mayflower is a brilliant topic if the question is phrased correctly.
