Yikes, I noticed increasingly diminishing drive space on drive C: over the last few weeks, with nothing new being installed. And DBPro is installed on drive D:.
So I poked around last night and found that there is over 40 dbpdataXX directories in the C:\windows\temp directory! Each one contains over 5 meg of dppro .dll's, like: dbprolightdebug.dll, dbpromemblocksdebug.dll, dbpromusicdebug.dll, etc.
Based on the dates of these files it seems that a new directory is created each day I use DBPro.

Three questions.

1. Why?? Why create one every day instead of reusing the same dir?

2. Can I safely delete these directories? I could really use the 250+ meg of space.

3. Does anyone else have these directories? If not, then my system is acting abnormally.

Pass. I dont know why it should be using temporary files anyway...

Yes - anything in the temporary director should be regarded as temporary, and being temporary you can delete it when you like. DBPro should delete the temporary directory when the program finishes...

In looking at the dates more closely at the dates, I see that somedays when I've used DBPro there was no directory created, yet, some days there were 6!

I'm using DBPro to write "Suger Free Candyland", for diabetic children!

I believe this dir will get left behind if the program crashes, pc locks up, or reboot without closing.

This is a problem with all windows apps that use temp files and or directories.

There is really no good way to solve it except rely on windows clean up to get rid of it for you.

Something like this would not be a good idea.

"delete directory windir$()+"temp\dbpdata"

1. If its the current running programs temp dir you will delete the files that are not in use.

2. Some other dbp program or windows app is running and using that directory.

i have a similar problem with both dbp and dbc (trials), one day when running dbp my pc crashed an after i rebooted it decided that there were about 1000 corupt dbp files in the temp folder, i stopped the chkdsk before it did anything with the files and (ignoring the small popup on the taskbar saying the file was corrupt) it ran fine.
now, after letting chkdsk "fix" the files, whenever i try to run a program i created in dbp it runs the prog, then does nothing for a while, no window opens or anything, then closes it. i can still compile progs and they run on other pc's but not on mine, with dbc, which i installed after dbp stopped working, i run the dbc prog but the text characters are all realy messed up.

i am running xp on the system below, the ram is not ddr,

i am thinking of buying dbp for xmas but am not sure if i would have the same prob.
anyone got any ideas?

Sounds as if the problem is with directX, if you can compile and distribute... Can you run other directX dependant software?

If not, I don't think you can uninstall directX - anyone know if you can repair it? Failing that I belive you are looking at a complete re-install of XP - great fun.

Just trying the install process again should repair DirectX ... at least, it worked for me when I had that problem.

If it doesn't solve it, it may be that you have other problems with your machine, then as Gee said, it may be best to reinstall XP.

my problem only seems to affect one other program and that is starwars ep1 podracer, noi other games have probs such as halo, quake3, redfaction or anything written in dbc ot the3dgamemaker.
btw with dbc the only problem with the text is when i run it from in dbc, if i compile it then run it from windows it is fine.
thx for the help, i will try reinstalling drivers and dx etc. but xp will take up more time than i have just now
