Is there one. I have been following Lee's blog post for several months and it appears to me there is very little chance of updates to the current 7.7 DBPro. The man is so busy he can't even take a break from his current task. Can we really expect anything or do I just stop checking on updates.

Please don't take this as a knock, I am just trying to get feel for the company policy.

Operating System: (Windows 8.1 64 bit) Processor: (AMD FX-6200 Six-core - 3.80 GHz) Memory: (10GB) Display AdapterAMD Radeon HD 7570)

I'm also curious as to whether DBPro development will continue, or if the company is planning to replace it or phase it out entirely.

they will have DBP reloaded you pay $100. and in six months you will have some that you can't use. But in 5 years it mostly to be a good program.

Life is not fair, so deal with it.

I've been reading Lee's development blog, and he's said a few things about it recently. I can't remember exactly what he said, so don't quote me on this, but I remember something along the lines of 'The Darkbasic community is still huge, and you've waited a long time for an update. I'm warming to the idea of releasing a 'DB3' update to the community, which contains all the improvements I've needed to code Reloaded!'
Someone also asked him 'Any hope for DB Elite?', and he replied 'I think that's a question for another time
Right now we're focusing on getting Reloaded stable and working. After that, maybe we could look at a crowd-funded or kickstarter campaign!'

One of the greatest things we can have is certainty that all of our hard work won't get scuttled by our compiler going obsolete. It's the kind of thing that makes you lose sleep at night~ kinda.

I am kinda wondering about this too. I have been spending a lot of time lately really digging into DBP and wonder if I should continue or move on to C++ or C#?

How could that happen? If they come out with a update you would finish with your current version. If they never update DBP again you still have the version you have now which is ok.

When was the last time classic was updated? and lots of people still use it. If they update to what they used to make reloaded that would be great. They never update past that and probably will not need to.

I don't think DBP is going anywhere. I think the user base is to big to let that happen.

I've been looking through some older threads talking about version 7.5 7.6 and 7.7 and yet so far as I know, I'm on the latest version, version 1.071.

Can anyone explain to me why when I click the "check for updates" under help, it says my software is up to date? Is it?

I usually never update until it is an official release. Yours is the last official release.

Why not do both?
There are things you can do in C that are easier than in DB and vice-versa.
C will be around for a very long time to come so it won't hurt to have another string to your bow.
I've been learning it for a few months now after getting an Arduino and have found it fairly easy.

Take a look at Processing (Google it) - it's a bit like DB but for C.

Personally I think there will be an update for DB but it's not going to happen for at least another year or so.
It's falling behind now and that's a real shame as other languages have come on in leaps and bounds.

DB is still great for prototyping though so I will still be using it (for a while at least.)

No it isn't. From the DBPro upgrades page:

Quote: "Upgrades

The latest version of DarkBASIC Professional is: Version 7.62. This was released on 12th May 2012."

If DBPro was dead, I doubt very much I would be writing my current app... more on that soon! (in about a week or two in GC!)

In regards to learning C and C++, if you feel you can grasp the fundamentals of what I call Application Coding Flow, the usage of how functions, code blocks, variables and such work together to form the body of an application, then I can recommend a couple of books to get you hitting the ground running for C and C++, I consider them (C and C++) fundamental for the next thing...

C# and .NET...
Ahh yes as you will possibly learn soon, I have a soft spot for C# , I must say here that you will truly benefit from picking up the basics of C and C++ beforehand ... as often you will dive into either C or C++ as well as other languages while working on a C# based application.

If you wish to continue in the world of Windows Development, C# is your golden bet for native development as well as cross platform! I shall say no further for now

Well I know some c++ and DBP but master of either. I am quite comfortable with both. I have tried a couple of times to get into c# and I just can't get used to it.
