Hi All,

I\'m new to the forums. I used to code in AMOS (yes, that long ago) and loved it. With fond memories of coding games in basic, I bought AppGameKit for my eldest son this Christmas. I\'ve been helping him to get going and in the process I\'ve remembered how much fun it is! So...I\'ve started coding myself again after a 20ish year gap. I\'ve started creating my own map editor (plenty to think of there!) and then I\'ll have a go at a basic platformer.

So...that\'s me. AppGameKit seems like a top product with an active development so fun times ahead.

PS Hope this was the right place to post. I couldn\'t see a newcomer section for AGK.

Yes, this is the correct place to post.

Welcome to the forum, DavidAGK!

I recommend starting with AppGameKit v10819 (the final V1 version). It is fairly stable and works well on most devices. AppGameKit V2 is only in alpha mode and not complete (and the iOS and Android and Tier 2 stuff is not ready yet).

If you are comfortable in C++, Tier 2 is a great way to go. It allows you to use all the standard classes (std::string, vector, etc.) and object oriented programming, of course.

Tier 1 (AGK Basic) is also quite good for final production, as well as reasonably quick prototyping.

There are a lot of people here who will be willing to help with issues. Starting on 11-Jan, I won't be anywhere near as visible as I used to be (I am starting a full time job in Anchorage, Alaska).

Good luck and Happy Programming!

Cheers,

Cheers guys and thanks for the intro advice. I'll stick with Basic for now and AppGameKit V1...if I use V2, I'll not know what's a bug and what's me doing the wrong thing!

Good point on using the latest version...How can I check the build version - in the "About" it just says 108?

DavidAGK, as long as you downloaded the v10819 file, you have the correct one. The IDE About always only says the major version. If you open the AGK.txt file in the directory you installed AppGameKit in, it will say which version it is on about the fourth line.

Ah, yes, thanks, I can see in the changelog list that it includes v108.19 so that implies I have the latest version.

Thanks.
