Why do you want to place lights with cursor? are you making a 3D editor? .You can do that with get pick vector x()

Quote: "The pick data is generated when the PICK OBJECT and PICK SCREEN commands are used. The vector is relative to the world position of the
camera, and so adding the camera position to this vector will result in the 3D world position.
"

you could do something like that with this code but you will have to make your own program to see your level and place lights.

it's the limit set by DirectX and your graphics card.

Not sure but I think FPSC use pre-rendered lights. For that we've got gamefx commands, but you have to know how it woriks and not to much information to start.

Do you mean how to make the necessary images? There are various ways of making normal maps and most image processing packages contain functions for doing that. For example I use Texture Maker but I believe you can create them in Gimp as well. There are also a few normal map creation programs posted on the forum, e.g. I believe davidw posted one as did I I believe . Specular maps are much easier and you just have to create a texture which has the correct values for your purpose (and only you will know what that is). Specular maps are often combined into the normal map as the alpha layer, alternatively you can use a separate image in which case you will probably need only one colour component, e.g. red, and leave the others spare for other purposes.

If you want to use one of my terrain shaders (see previous post) then you'll probably need to modify them a bit because I didn't use specular maps if I recall correctly. The changes required would be minimal though.
