Hi,
Do models loaded into DBP explicitly have to be of the .x format?
I tried .3ds and don't see any anomalies.

This converter works fairly well in the event that you need to use .X instead of .3DS.

I don't know who the author is, they didn't credit themselves in the program.

You can use .3DS, but .x is the preferred format as it supports animation and auto-loading textures, which .3DS doesn't .DBO is technically the best format to use but it has next to no support in other software, so .x is your best bet.

3DS is not supported any longer. It's 'hit and hope' with it I'm afraid.

As mentioned, saving as .x, then converting to DBPro's internal DBO format is preferred.

Thanks for that men.

If I may please ..
I read that it is necesary to triangulate the mesh.
Any advise on that as well gentlemen?

What I don't get is X is a heavily used format used in a wide range of languages (or used to be used) but 3d modellers don't have a native X format exporter which I just can't get my head round that. Surely the X format would be a must when creating these modelling packages this there's a demand for it. 3ds/Maya/C4D etc have formats that aren't even in use anymore.

I don't believe it's necessary to triangualte objects. It happens when they're saved as .x format I believe.

I heard that as well Mobiius, but doesn't that depend on the 3d package we are exporting from?
If so, I guess it's wise for me to get info from the respective CAD developper.
Thank you.

Yes, that baffles me too.

I'm fairly sure the X format (and DBPro) supports quads as well as triangulated meshes [Edit: last bit added for clarity] - but a mesh saved from DBPro will, as you say, be triangulated. What other programs do is anyone's guess.

I assume you're working with a CAD program, but if not, try Blender. It exports .x. Actually, Kira's DirectX exporter pretty much guarantees the .x will work with DBPro. If you're looking for a good program for converting files, use Blender 2.49b. Don't use the latest versions as they rewrote the entire thing and a lot of the import/export options ended up removed.
