Is there a way to make a reflective object semi transparant as well?

I can either use one of these

set alpha mapping on 4,10
set reflection shading on 4

but not both at the same time.

I'd suggest using a shader. Either a darkshader one or one of Evolved's from here: http://www.evolved-software.com/shaders/refractionreflection
