Hey there, I will try to make this as short and sweet as possible.

I am making a Final Fantasy Tactics style game which will have a 3d map and on it i would like to place 2d animations of my characters (because no one I know can do 3d animation).

1) Can I place avi animations on 3d objects (planes) as textures so that i can move the objects around in my 3d environment?
Or
2) Would it be better to use bitmap animations on the objects?
Or am I just going at this all the wrong way?

Thanks
Las

i would avoid AVI because there is no transparency.

better to make your animations and then use DB commands

play animation to image

texture object w/ the animating image

these commands are off the top of my head, but if you check the documentation you should find them...

good luck!
