Hi guys,

I have created a series of videos trying to help any new guys to the forums, (or event the 'old timers' that haven't learnt yet) how to make a very simple model for themselves.

I have created the series primarily for creating the model and importing into FPSC Reloaded, however, the process is exactly the same for classic, the only thing that will differ is the associated shader.

To anyone that is following these tutorials,

I have been practising a few different techniques and trying out a few ideas for the new videos. I have decided they will follow this order:

• Edit original model to have minor damage
• Retexture the new damaged model
• Edit original model to have heavy damage
• Retexture the new heavily damaged model
• Edit original model to have extreme damage (broken in half)
• Retexture the new extremely damaged model
• Add a new entity to add to the original model (Wire fence with poles)
• Texture the wire fence (if it doesn't fit into one video with the above)

Move onto more intermediate videos.

These videos will focus on some slightly advanced techniques to achieve results, improving workflow and generally speeding up the entire process. For these videos, I am going to be modelling, texturing and potentially animating a forklift truck.

Video 7 in the series is now live.

In this episode, I show you how to texture the damaged section of the barrier. (with a difference) You won't even need to open GIMP for this one! All the texturing is done inside Blender.

As I state in the video, I'm not going to record the video showing you how to create medium damage on the barrier. I will miss that video out. I want to let you use your new artistic skills and show me what you guys can do now.

So, the next video, will be really messing the barrier up! Serious damage! We are going to cut this thing in half, exposing all the steel supports inside.

Quick question, besides .obj, can it import "X" file meshes also?
As I don't use Blender, but after watching some of your tutorials
I might try it out. Mainly for the texturing.
Just wondering.

ok, just read up on some Blender features and it says it
has import/export support for both .obj & .x formats.
So am I correct in thinking I can import a finished
.X mesh to work on it some more if needed?

You can edit a .X file in Blender. I only just recently found the importer for it.

There are usually a few imperfections on the model that occur during the process, but, nothing too destructive that can't be fixed easily.

Once you get your head around using the short keys in Blender, it will feel really smooth and super easy to use.

In this video, we take our concrete barrier and really mess it up! But, in a good way! (kind of)

I show you how to break a huge chunk off your model and add the twisted broken metal bars.

Really appreciate you doing these videos. So I decided to give Blender a try (newest 64bit Ver.) And of course like so many others, I'm trying to figure out this "user interface".
It's very frustrating when starting out. (I see what people mean now) What I'm asking you is, are there any UI "mods,plugins,or scripts" that will strip the layout down to just the basic modeling
interface till I can get a grip on this thing? I would like to
learn using Blender, seems overwhelming.

I don't think there is anything like that mate. Just keep going with it and try to ignore the rest of the stuff that you don't need for now.

Throwing yourself in at the deep end is the best way to learn!

All I did for a good few months is mess with ALL of the settings to see what they all did! Just start out with the basic cube and add different modifiers to it and see what they do. Then extrude some sides of the cube and add try some different modifiers. Just play with the software until you feel comfortable with the settings.

There are still a LOT of features that I don't know what they do and probably never will, but, will I need them? Probably not.

You can't break the software by playing with it; but, if for some strange reason you do, just reinstall it!

Keep going with it and it will become really familiar to you after not too long.

I had this image as my wallpaper for a long time; this might work for you as well?

I must add, this keyboard reference is designed for 2.48, so, there will be subtle differences and it will be missing a few.

The last and final part of the series is now up.

I have spent FAR too much time on this little barrier, but, I hope that people have managed to learn something and maybe gain some skills within 3D modelling.

In this video I show you how to texture the seriously damaged barrier that we modelled in the last video.

I would love to see how other people have done with these videos, so, please feel free to post your finished models in this thread. Share your work with the world. Even if you think its bad, share it anyway and get some constructive criticism.
