I have the sapi 4.0 5.x and the .net package. The enhancement reports an error when I attempt to use the text-to-speech commands. Anyone know which is compatible?

I'm not totally sure, sorry! I think it just uses the default Microsoft speech API...
Do you have Windows 8? The enhancement pack is pretty old now, so maybe it needs an older version of the API than the one you have :/

I've been using the SAPI 4.0a since 2000. I wrote an air traffic control program in visual basic 6.0 (atcsimulator.com) that makes exclusively use of that API for both TTS and Speech recognition. I also have the SAPI 5.1 installed on my PC, and most recently used Visual Studio 2010 with the built-in SAPI for the .NET platform running under Windows 7. So, I would think one of those would work with the Enhancement pack. SAPI 4.0a is still working under Windows 7 when I run ATCsimulator2.

But I am not running Windows 8; and probably won't be anytime soon.

Well, I think the TTS-support was canceled by ms with VB.net (or I never found out how to make it working).

I then wrote a DB programm that took the the text from the clipboard, played it and ended then.

In the VB program I put the text in the clipboard and shell th DB programm (minimized or hidden). This works just fine and using google instead of ms api's made it more resitant against microsoft updates and it work on win xp, vista, win 7 and win 8.

Since DBPro is 32 bit, I am going to continue using the SAPI 4.0a version and create a network app to communicate with my DBPro app, and pass a string of text to it that I wish the custom app to speak.

Meaning, my game will be a DBPro server app, and the TTSENGINE app will be the client to respond to TTS directions.
