OK I got a demo together of my UFO CATCHER game you may have seen in the other post. It's split into 2 files b/c Geocities is lame. anyways please give it a try and let me know how it runs on your system, especially the framerate, and game speed. it's all based on time, so any resolution/framerate (within reason) should run at the same speed. although the collision system may break down at fps lower than ~20.

I will be out of town for a week (away from the internet) so, please post any problems/comments/questions in this forum, and I will reply as soon as I get back!

looking forward to checking back in a week!

p.s. you can find screenshots at the link too.

Yes, The zip is corrupt.
I could host your game for you in 1 part if you like. I have a pretty long URL though.

Works fine for me. Nice menu system. Will be great once sound fx are added. Really impressed with texture detail of toys, even down to having prices on the back!

Only had one problem which was when messing around with powerups but I can't reproduce it. Basically the crane skewed to the left and thus dropped the toy outside the cage!

Not sure about your fruit machine thingy - it's a bit bland.

Good luck!

hmmm, the bitmap problem seems strange, I'll look into it... it could be because I have a temporary bitmap that I make, and I was using a number for the bitmap that was like 999 or something really high... I vaguely remember somehwere on the forums someone mentioning that you can only have bitmap numbers up to 32 or something like that... for the time being I have changed to number to a lower number (since its only a temporary bitmap anyway).... hopefully that will fix the problem.

p.s. I haven't uploaded a fixed version yet b/c I'm waiting for a few more people to try the game and perhaps find a few more bugs.

spooky:

thanks for the feedback. I also agree the slot machine is a little lame right now, mostly because of the solid grey texture that fills the screen when you are looking at it. if I add a better texture, and some sound effects, I think it will be pretty cool. as for the power-up error, did you enact a powerup while the crane was carrying a toy? if so, I can imagine some possible errors... in the final game there will be no way to do that, so hopefully it's not a problem...

thanks again for the comments!

Nobody can try the game because the bitmap problem happens before the game starts.

OK, I've uploaded a (hopefully) fixed version of the game, you need to re-download the "UFODEMO1.zip" file only.

pincho- please let me know if this fixes the problem.

thx,
walaber

You are correct. It's when you try and use 'toy view' whilst carrying a toy:

I thought the spinning thing was a bit slow.
It completely killed the fluidity.

Otherwise, congratulations on making a game this good on a concept so simple.

OK Pincho I made a version that loads an image instead of using the whole bitmap method. much cleaner, and should now work on your system- please let me know if it does!

seems like everyone hates the slot machine addition.... unfortunately I can't think of another way to incorporate the power-ups I have.... maybe I'll make it a little faster, and of course add sound effects/updated graphics...

thanks for the comments everyone!

OK thanks everyone for the comments.. does anyone have any ideas for other power-ups/feature I could implement into the game? nothing to extravagant, as I don't have to much time left

P.S. I've fixed up the texture for the main cabinet, it looks much better now, and I've adjusted the slot machine slightly so it's faster and overall less annoying. Plus the game now has most of the sound effects in place. I'll post a new screenshot later this evening when I get home from work.
