Hopefully if you clicked this post it is because you remember the name. Well from 1998 - 2000 I owned and operated a Q Zar arena. Times got tough and the local mall where my arena was at decided to jack up the lease on my areas so I told them where to stick it and closed and storage my gear, less the arena walls (still cry about that from time to time)
Well I have recently rebooted my old PCQ system and played with a few vests and decided to use FPSC to make a full scale multi player version of this with several arena maps and all of the original soundfiles.
If you are still reading and still ask ... ok sounds cool but what is Q Zar?? Well Q Zar was one of the early indoor laser tag arenas that actually had the best technology at the times before wifi came into play. You could run and fall and roll and not hurt the gear in any way as opposed to all the other markets out there which made for the most fun games to play.
Currently in process of modeling a nice sized arena suitable for 40 players, just like the real arena. Also modeling the original Phaser used in the game. Just trying to figure out how to make a small visible "laser" shot for effect instead of just having muzzle flash but not priority. Full reality in the game as well, 6 shots before "dead" and you have to return to your energizer to recharge. Also incorporating the features from the PCQ so people can play a variety of the games offered from team capture the base to solo stun and even the rarely played battlefield.
I know around the US there are still a handful of Q Zar arenas still in operation and I wish I could dust off mine and go again here as well but probably not. The new system out is called Quasar Elite, have seen the layout and wish they would come back to the US as it was and for those still in business the best indoor laser tag arenas to play at.
Well back to work, will post some early screenies soon when I can get my Phaser into my arena for a test run. Hopefully FPSC Toolbox will make that process simple.
