Not sure if this is the right place for this post. I would like to make a game like this. This is probably a question for some of the older folks on here.

I used to play an RPG on my commodore 64 back in the mid to late 80's and I think it was called Phantasia. It started out with a blank gray screen and a little sprite for a starting point. When you moved forward the square would open up to a darker gray, a room would open up and would just have dot's and lines as room contents. Very basic 2D and text. If you hit an encounter text popped up with options. It was basically a text game but you didn't have to map with a pencil and paper. It had a good plot to it. Some of the quests, places and things that needed to be done you would have to keep some notes on but it was a pretty cool game.

Does anyone remember it? If so where can I get it? I would like to play it then program it with some improvements like a journal so you don't have to keep notes on that stuff. I have searched abandonware sites and can't find it.

Thanks

Well Phantasie C64 is available for download here...

I have never played it, and I didn't download it to test it. You probably need a C64 emulator to play it. The emulators are on the right of the screen.

I may DL it and try. I have seen that before and don't think that is it. This game had no graphics, images etc. It was top down and the whole screen was gray. At the bottom there was a little bit of an area for text. Other than that the whole screen was gray and as you move the screen would change darker to show where you have been. As you moved you opened up more of the game on screen. Other than that it was totally text based.

It has grey graphics and text on Google images, but maybe it was upgraded for other computers.

You should have a go at this game called untrusted

It looks like a sort of text based game but the twist is you maniupulate the levels by tweaking the source code that's displayed in a panel on the right. It's quite cool!
