is it possible to put sphere mapping on matrices ? That could make some cool water effect

Nope.

You could do it with a memblock mesh, or an animated water mesh - but not with a matrice.

thanx for the precision. I was searching the help without results, but was still hoping for some hidden/undocumented or weirdly named commands :\

Yeah, the matrice command set is pretty poor compared to what you can do with models. I prefer to use a memblock mesh instead of a matrice because of the better visual control you have - plus the speed boost when using a mesh. Unfortunately, memblocks are still far too slow to update in realtime, otherwise we could have wavy water meshes which could be sphere mapped and would look freakin awesome, maybe the next patch will let us have some better mesh deform commands (I've been saying this a lot recently).

In the 3d Forum, there is a thread sticky. it explains how to do mesh deformation using limbs. as you create a mesh, you can sphere map it. you only need to program the limb movement.

or you animate a mesh in your modelling program and use play animation to make it move. i hope this makes sense to you

... they call it a royale with cheese ...

I initially thought that would work, but I tried it and DBPro did'nt like all those limbs one bit. I tried a 30x30 grid, which is really not very detailed for water, and that would need far too many bones for DBPro to handle. We need a way to directly effect the vertices themselves without having to create an object from a memblock, if we could do it on an object then it'd be possible and it'd probably be really easy. Someone did post a 20-liner with a cool water effect, but as I said, a bit too slow for inclusion in a game.

A sphere map wouldnt work very well on something large and flat like a mattrix anyway. If you were to use a memblock i would suggest using a cube map.
