A wierd problem occured when trying to install DBP on my new PC running Windows 8.1.

At 1% progress during the installation of DBPro, the following error occured:

Quote: "The following error occured on the file 'C:\TGC\DBPro\Compiler\TGCVerifier.exe'

The system cannot find the file specified"

With user account control switched off I cannot understand what is wrong with the InstallShield program. I tried installing on different hard drives with no luck. I searched the internet for solutions but these just recommend what I already did, disable UAC.

It took convincing to persuade me to install Windows 8.1 for my project work; the first thing that could have gone wrong has gone wrong; but hear that 8.1 is not too bad; it must be just a coincidence.

I have absolutely no issues installing DBPro nor using it [8.1 Pro], my app shows this [Sig]

How are you installing it? default directory or other folder?
Which install file are you using?...

The problem has been solved by an unknown spirit.

For some unknown reason it installed correctly today.

The manufacturer had an antivirus program called Avast! preinstalled.

I left it installed just to see what it would be like before using an alternative. I had a feeling the anti-virus was to blame, but I managed to install every other program successfully, all apart from the program the PC was purchased for; DBP.

I think, whilst Windows updated itself during one of the reboots; it fixed the problem behind the scenes.

I hate upgrading my operating system, I have only forced myself to perform this act 3 times in the past 15 years. For each upgrade days must be spent migrating development software and filing systems, sometimes not quite leading to a better experience.

So far I am impressed with everything in Windows 8.1 apart from the start menu. There are some features which have been improved since windows 7 which is my favourite; if all goes well I will probably call 8.1 my favourite. I think version 9 will be the best, I hear it will combine all of the favorite features of XP, 7 and 8.1 (but not 8.0) and will look forward to it.

Something I opted for is a SSD (solid state) hard drive; something I strongly recommend for all fellow programmers. Even with a low budget, expect your operating system to start up in about 5 to 10 seconds; and expect all file operations to speed up at least 2 fold; with no noise.

What!? I am pretty sure I posted on this... the server updates/buggyness is really getting annoying, as too is the dead RSS feedings...

Thank you for the info about the Antivirus I figured you were using a third party one, EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT NEEDED AT ALL but it is completely down to the user get very annoyed when manufacturers allow firms to pay to put crap-ware on new systems... something I get paid for to remove :p

SSD, been using them for over three years now and moved away from Desktop computing [BIG BOXES and CASES] moved onto using Surface Pros Welcome to a modern computing world

Did you never just hit start and begin typing what you wanted when using 7? Been doing that since Vista... I suppose as I am a visual designer I love the new menu, love navigating around for items, guess it is a case of each to their own... I dread the return of the 7 menu... but for nostalgia, cool, but I hope to kiester it is optional...

I do use the search and run field, but I tend to like browsing the start menu to remind myself of what I have installed on each of my systems, as I launch. The new start menu is very attractive, but I prefer the logic of the old one.
