Hi guys,

I'm currently working on a 2D space shooter with some interesting features, and things are looking pretty good. However, I am in dire need of a name for my game. After using http://videogamena.me/ and having a whale of a time sifting through the randomized humorous garbage, I realized that I wasn't going to get anywhere. Since I myself am not particularly good at making new names, I am once again resorting to the forums. I don't really want to reveal too much about the game too soon, and I am therefore not expecting miracles from you lot. Some ideas, however, would be nice. I wan't to secure a good name as soon as possible in order to start posting about the game to build interest (particularly on here and indiedb). Not entirely sure if this is the correct board to post on, although it seems to be the most active... Otherwise, feel free to close the thread and I'll open it somewhere more relevant (mods).

Just so that you have something to go on, here's a little screenie. (resized from 1920x1080)

thanks guys!

cheers

what I realized from my latest game that the name lied in my game play all along. Before I realized it though I did the same as you. I reached out on the forums, and even though they gave some funny names it didn't quite fit.

So I left it alone for a bit and as I was playing my own game it finally dawn on me that I was saying this one phrase alot.

So keep playing your game and pay attention to what your game is doing repetitively either in speech, music or gameplay.

That's how I found mine. Hope this help.

I would love to help, but it seems like a difficult task to capture the essence of a game from a single screenshot (which looks great BTW).

Perhaps you could use a "working title" like:

-Project: Conflict Horizon-

("Conflict" replacing "Event" as a black hole reference. IT MAKES SENSE!!!! )

You could then name it when inspiration hits, rather than forcing it out. In my experience, I've found this approach to be the best in all things.

Edit: I Googled "Conflict Horizon" and apparently it's in use. I knew it made sense.

Haha thanks they're who initially made me serious about music. They have an unfortunate negative stigma now-a-days though. Its almost the UNcool thing to be (a Metallica fan) anymore.

If you wanted, you could release a playable demo on this forum for alpha/beta testing and feedback. If you did that, and still needed a name, people would probably be better able to help. I know I would. I can't wait to see this project under "Showcase". Good luck!

Meh, they were the first metal band that I really, and I mean REALLY, started following and listening to

I was thinking of releasing an alpha to get people to test it out, build interest, iron out bugs etc. At the moment, there's not a whole lot on my list before I can do so, it really depends on what state I want to release the game in. I'm also waiting for my "music guy" to send me the rest of his music. But I suppose that I could release a kind of pre-alpha here on the forums and politely ask for name ideas? Then go ahead with proper marketing with trailers etc for the more serious alpha/beta/release - releases. Sound like a plan?

Oh, and thanks! Glad to hear that you're interested

cheers

Hey - It's a good title! Sounds dynamic.

You could think "ROGUE SHIP" - not a game name I can find - title of of a 1965 SF novel. Titles cannot be copyrighted, so completely safe. As I'm a writer I know all about that!

You could call it "Wallander" !!!!

Haha! Thruster X feels a little too diffused... Otherwise it's alright I guess. Don't think that it fits in well with the theme. :/

As for "ROGUE SHIP", feels like every single indie game nowadays is "roguelike" haha! No, I'm just kiddin' But I'll keep that in mind, I'm off to scour my bookshelves

Try "ZONES" - small, zappy, and memorable. Part of the title of a screenplay I wrote.

You could try "Sky Leap" if you credit my story "Sky Leap - Earth Flame" from Interzone, republished in "Best British Fantasy 2014" on July 18th.

Titles are nightmare!

Quote: "Titles are nightmare!"

I know right!

Quote: "Try "ZONES" - small, zappy, and memorable. Part of the title of a screenplay I wrote."

I like the idea of having a short and memorable title, however, I don't feel that ZONES covers the gameplay. I think that I will have to fix a taster for bug-testing and for people to get a feel for it.

I'll update this thread once I've posted it!
