I have a great shader that allows normal mapping and light maps on environments. This is about 90% of where I'd like to be graphically, but I also want real time shadows cast from the characters onto the environment.

For that to happen, would both shaders need to be consolidated into one?

Coincidentally, this is the same graphics technology used heavily by Bioware in the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.

Only one shader can be applied to a single limb or object; therefore the given shader must handle all of your needs for the limb or object.

Consolidation should be the easy way to get this done.
