While I was playing Heroes of Might and Magic IV (HOMM4) last night my cat wandered across the keyboard while I was in a combat screen. The result was that the terrain seemed to have a checkerboard pattern superimposed over it as in the image below:

I have no idea how to turn off that grid. I've tried everything short of a reinstall of the game.

Interestingly it looks like the combat grid that many players complain is missing from the game . I'm sure my cat would help them out for a fee.

Any HOMM4 players know about this? I've Googled all the keyboard shortcuts, cheats, etc, and nothing seems to fit.

Edit This is so sad. I've just opened the game again, entered a combat scene, checked the combat options and there it is: Show Combat Grid. I unchecked that and my problems were solved. I'll kill that damn cat. I wish I knew what the keyboard shortcut was that he used.

This has to rate as my most embarrassing post ever.

Read my first post properly - and no-one ever suggested it was a bug anyway.

I like that.

On another HOMM4 matter, have you used the campaign editor to create your own scenarios or campaigns? I've found the event scripting system to be a very flexible tool. But there are a few oddities that I haven't been able to overcome. For example, suppose I want a hero, green colour say, to approach a neutral town - but under certain circumstances I want the neutral town to join the green player without a battle. How can I do that?

Never used the editor for 4. However, you can make a message box "we will join you gladly, but you must beat our best warrior - it is our old beloved tradition" and put 1 troglodyte in castle.

Yes, that's more or less what I've done. Annoying but not more than that.

When I create a scenario I tend to put a lot of effort into the storyline - but when I play I tend to skip the story (which means I miss some vital clues of course ).
