I have downloaded darkbasic pro free and when I try to open it, it says
Quote: "DirectX 9 installed(589824). Requires DirectX 9.0c (october 2006) or later"
My computer has DirectX 11 (I checked using
Quote: "dxdiag"
)I thought that DirectX was backwards compatible. What do I do???!!!

You need to have the correct version of DirectX 9.0c installed in addition to DirectX11. Follow the instructions in this post:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=29734&b=15

Look for the DirectX Web Installer link in that post - under the heading DirectX Details

[Aside: Don't be misled by the following statement in that post:

Quote: "If you have the latest DirectX installed, you won't have any problems with earlier updates of DBPro if you choose to run them."

as I think that is referring to the latest version of DirectX 9.0c not DirectX in general.]

Post back if you have further problems.

Many of us here install DBPro to a folder in My Documents rather than Program Files as that sometimes causes problems with newer versions of Windows. But try the DX9 Web Installer first.
