You don't really have to do that. I usually don't write any blog posts, maybe just put up one or two screenshots, but that's it. And I rarely comment on anything within those 48 hours. Really, you can just focus on getting your game done, and interact with the community afterwards - or not at all.
And while it certainly helps to have an efficient workflow and know your dev tools, you can always just make a text based game, hence need nothing more than your programming language.
For sound and music, I tend to use sfxr, which is a sound generation program specifically created by a participant for Ludum Dare a few years back, and Abundant Music, a procedural music generator. So those two things usually take me an hour or less, the rest is programming and graphics creation (usually in MS Paint, or programmed procedural graphics).
Of course I participated this time as well (
Link to the game). Went with a story of a guy going to hell and trying to find a way out. Eventually he realizes that disguising as Jesus and convincing the devil he really is him and belongs in heaven does the job.
The game revolves around platforming, exploration, a few minor puzzles and super cool dialogues with various people.

This is Jesus using his new grappling hook after turning a lake of water into wine.

And this is one of the many dialogues. Often you have multiple options that influence how the other person will react, so you can actually affect the plot by saying different things.
Last but not least, here's a complete walkthrough of the game on Youtube:
Well, enough self promotion for now. Just didn't want to open up a new thread.
