Geek Culture / programs not running, "32-bit?"

yurrrggghhhwaaaa! anyway....
when i try to run certain of your darkbasic/darkbasicpro programs, i sometimes get an error message,
"Runtime Error 1507 - Display using 32 bit is not supported by availiable hardware at line 0"
????????????????????????
ok... i have 32 bit, i've changed to all the other bits... but i bet it is just my very bad computer specs... i want to know for sure though, becuase all the 'good' games made in db/dbp, wont run on my computer! all other games like games from microsoft, ect, run fine though...

Sounds like either: You need a new Video Card, or you need a new monitor. It's unlikely to be the monitor: but a lot of moniters out there, especially laptop monitors, can;t display more than 24 bit colour. However you never notice this because the difference between 24 bit and 32 bit colour is almost imperceptible. Older Video cards can throw back an error message if the monitor can't support the 32 bit colour, but the problem sounds like you're video card. Something else you can try is right clicking on your desktop, going to the display tab, and setting your colour to 32. If you can't do this, then it's upgrade time. But don't worry: You can get a fairly decent card for around £30 these days. You'll notice the difference.

PS: Post your Specs! I can't help much without them.

frrggg.. i dont think our computer is worth updating, but better to buy a new one, currently i'm running these horribly specs...
500ghz processor
94mb RAM
16Mb 3dfx VooDoo3 3000D AGP
Windows 98

might as well not explain the rest, for we'll probably just get a new one, but our VooDoo3 card needs to be updated, but the disk it wants has been long lost...

I don't think voodoo 3 3000 cards support 32bit. So you need a new card.

You may be able to use the Voodoo in 16-bit mode, however is doubtful - you need a new graphics card (at the very least).


Mirrors are more fun than television. Well, that was fun, in a not-so-fun sort of way...
