Hello,

Can i create with dark physics or dark dynamix volumetric fog? I mean, the original fog from DBPRO it doesnt let me see the sky the whole scene is pitch black or depends on the color I add.

Thank You!

To get decent fog, make sure to use alpha transparent PNG files.

Some systems might use ghosting, or negative ghosting - and this is an additive effect that adds to the colour. So when you use volumetric particles that rely on ghosting, you end up with black or white when the density is too thick - this doesn't take much.

If you use alpha transparent textures instead, you could have a grey cloud, and layers or volumes of this grey cloud would result in a volumetric grey cloud, as it won't affect the actual colour, but the alpha transparency. You can also change the colour of the particle with this method - as opposed to ghosted particle effects that depend on the diffuse colour. For example, having a particle that starts off bright yellow, fades to orange quickly, then fades to grey as the alpha fades out, would give a cool explosion effect without needing lots of textures.

I will have a look at the DP examples and see if I can adapt it to suit... if not I'll just make a basic particle example to show what I mean. Check back in a day or so and I should have something posted.

Hello Alex, and everyone...
I just wanted to add this question about fog plains if anyone wants to field it:

When I play Skyrim, some of the rooms have cool fog that fades on the edges and disappears as the texture scrolls (rather than going into a wall)... is this done with a shader? If so, is this called an 'edge shader' or 'fader' or something? Or is this an actual particle system with many plains rather than one plain?

Any code for the fog?

Thank you very much!

MateiSoft, if you are using a skybox or skysphere, and you do not want the fog to affect it, you can use the command
SET OBJECT FOG yourobject,0
to disable fog on that object alone.
The fog would still display correctly on the rest of your geometry.
This only applies to the standard DBPro FOG command, though, and I agree, volumetric fog would be so much nicer, as the standard DBPro fog looks a bit outdated, to be honest.

Ah yes. The shader/fog issue. Since most shaders do not take fog into account, volumetric fog is definitely the way to go. I myself would be very interested in any techniques on how to do this. And the fog plain question Derek Darkly has set intrigues me as well.

Just on a side note, Evolved's shaders available at http://www.evolved-software.com do support fog, as illustrated in the picture below. The floor objects use parallax mapping, and after applying the fog range and colour to the shader, the fog shows up as it should.

DB particle system... Is it possible to specify an arbitrary particle size?

zzz!
