I think I just wasted some money buying an i-mac.

I wanted to start exploring Tier1 with an i-whatever device. Checked several forums and posts about what is required and all I could find was that I'll need an Intel processor and 10.6 OS min. Great! Bought what I though was a bargain on ebay, downloaded latest AppGameKit IDE but it won't work. Says 10.8 is required (which I can't install on this apparently - Intel Core Duo processor).

I'm most upset.

I really don't know much about Macs but if you do a YouTube search there appears to be people updating Snow Leopard to Yosemite.

Not sure if that applies to yourself?

If your iMac is 2007+ you can upgrade no problem, and since you have snow leopard I think that is the case. In the top corner click the Apple > About This Mac > More Info to see what iMac edition you have, and also in the About you can see what OS X version you have. If lower than 10.6.8, upgrade to the latest Snow Leopard before updating to Yosemite.

You should be OK

Unfortunately no. The only way for me to get anything beyond 10.6.8 was to upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 Duo - which I did last night Not a pleasant experience.

I'm now running 10.8.3 which is fine for AGK2. Tested a few example apps and am very pleased. I can now export i-stuff apps! Yay!

I 've been thinking about to buy a Mac too... but they are so expensive + the 80$ Acc fee per year.
So I throught I could export my I-stuff with a Hackintosh in VirtualBox... or something.

I know it would be illegal..
I would buy me an original Mac if I make enougth money with my games, for sure.

But can they find it out somehow?

I think there is a way to do the VirtualBox Mac with a legit copy of Yosemite or Mavericks using Unibeast but I am not 100% sure.
I know you can install it this way on some PC's but again not tried this method.

Doing this you might be ok to get AppGameKit working on it but you might have problems when it comes to the iCloud or iTunes to actually upload the App??

Yeah thats exactly why I ask.

I don't know what is needed to upload a valid App to the store.
I never used OSX,ICloud or ITunes.(I have an old Ipod thats all)

You don't need a mac at all I've being using a cloud service for the last couple months and have published many apps/updates, all at the cost of $30! For $30 you get 30 hours of usage, and seeing as it only takes me about 10 minutes to submit an app, 30 hours is going to last quite a while

I went through the same pain as CJB, we brought an old mac not realising it had to be post 2009 to run the newest version of xcode. We did eventually manage to get the newest OS running, but it was such a ball ache... Finding this cloud service has been a god send...

I absolutely agree with Funnell7. If you are looking for an inexpensive solution to getting apps built for i-stuff, then go with the cloud service.

Stripping down an old iMac to replace the CPU, flashing the bios to make it 64bit happy, and fighting with a Mountain Lion to get it installed, is NOT fun at all. All I can say is it was quite an educational experience. When I'm ready to publish anything on istore, I will be using the Cloud service. My old iMac is strictly for testing/learning purposes.

Remember you need Yosemite, and from September you need El Capitan to build with XCode.
New rules from Apple coming.
I'm following all the sessions in streaming.
