I downloaded and started Dark BASIC Pro (free) and everytime I start it asks for the Order Key.

I have one computer that is online and one isn't.

I get the following error:
HttpSendRequest failed.
Error Code:-2146869244
Unable to get response from server. A firewall may be blocking this application.

How can I get an order key, or at least remove that annoying pop-up when I load Dark BASIC Pro?

Is the PC you're having the issue with connected to the internet? If so, have you tried turning off your firewall before launching dbp?

Probably a bit late to ask this, but what is a firewall, how do I find out if I have one and how do I turn it on or off?

There are two actually... One in your OS and one in your network hardware...

The one to disable for testing temporarily is in your OS... On Windows go to control panel and view all items... Look at the bottom...

Found it, thanks.

Apparently they are being managed by my Norton software. Still none the wiser over what they do exactly though - or when I'd need to intervene.

To be honest, I very rarely need to fiddle with the firewall... but if you come across an application trying to connect and you are certain your WiFi / Ethernet / Router / Modem is working fine [IE, Can browse to a website, several that is...] then you can either allow that application through it or disable it entirely for a short while, while making sure you do not browse to some questionable websites during that time...

There is likely more to this so be sure to investigate forums on the matter beforehand in case you need a patch or something first... might be the remote server is down or updated etc...

Yes, I've never been aware of a need to fiddle with it - which is probably why I know next to nothing about it.
