Does AGK2 support animated .gif images?
Or anybody knew anybody who worked on .gif support?

It doesn't, because it is not compatible across all platforms.
The solution is spritesheets and the sprite animation commands.

I see.
I'm going to be honest; I've never even tried to dabble in spritings or 2D games.
Is it possible to use the sprite commands on a 3d plane, like texturing it over a 3d plane to produce animations?

i believe in 3d u can only change the image via SetObjectImage.
