XenoBloom On steam now!

A sandbox growing game where you shape the evolution of an alien ecosystem.

XenoBloom charges you, an inexperienced demi-god, with the care of a fledgling alien biome. Nurture, harvest, evolve, and sculpt. Create your ideal garden world.

Unique to XenoBloom is its use of Cellular Automata to decide if plants live or die; Just watching their behavior can create a trance-like state of wonder.

Features:
– Nurture strange alien life
– Harvest plants to evolve new life-forms
– Control the rules of selection and survival
– Sculpt your world
– 4 game modes: normal, experimental, observational, ecological
– No fail condition
– Beautiful original soundtrack

WARNING:

XenoBloom was developed in approximately 3 months in early 2015. It was submitted to Steam Greenlight and passed through the process in 43 days. It then took me several months to get around to dealing with all the legal and technical issues involved. But really, when I actually decided to get on with it, the work involved went rather quickly. Reception has been positive with both players and indie game press.

IBOL, well done on getting your game on Steam, this looks very good and polished. I love the retro style to the graphics and you have some good reviews on Steam already which is promising for you with this.
I will download and have a play when I get chance but good luck with this.

I sure others might be interested too but do you have any info and tips etc for getting something published on Steam as it looks like your had a few months with the legal process etc.

Well done again and good luck

Yeah, neat idea!

I'd be interested in the path to steam publishing too. I've got it in mind for my platform game.
Using Tier 1 AppGameKit V2

interesting idea IBOL, love the graphic style. Hope you have a lot of success with this.

It would be interesting and helpful to myself and the AppGameKit community if you manage to give us any info on how to publish on steam.

Thanks everyone!

Honestly the hardest thing was getting the game through greenlight. In the end, it did not make it to the top 100, but instead I think someone at valve "reached out" and got it through. Greenlight really is a mystery sometimes. But this was not my first attempt at GL either... Approaching Infinity was on it for >1 year, and only made it to 86% . I have studied A LOT.

You really have to have a focused approach, a solid product, something people can get excited about. There is a lot of "junk" out there, and people are getting tired of it. Driving traffic to your site is #1. And also hard. TWITTER IS THE BEST. you should be there if you're not. But there are also tons of gaming sites, youtubers, etc.

As for the legal and technical issues, about 90% of that stuff was fear and procrastination on my part. When I actually set out to do it , it didn't take long. I did spend a day or two screaming at the screen, but after watching the videos they provide, I eventually got it working. And now, it's really easy to do updates, etc.

Sales are going pretty well, it's exciting sometimes

I feel like I should get some kind of forum badge for this, since they have them for the various mobile markets...

Great work IBOL and thanks for the insight, Steam seems a mystery and an incredibly hard process, especially for hobbyist I think it would be a no go area.

If I was a mod you would be getting a few badges here, can't believe you haven't got one already. I am sure it has just been missed.
Come on mods lets get IBOL some well deserved badges

I know you are a mod and could probably sort it yourself but probably feel a bit uneasy about issuing your own badges

This is a really really really nice looking game. The idea is great and the music is fantastic. Awesome work for 3 months of effort.

Thanks for the GL tips too.

Nice artwork, interesting concept and congratulations getting the game on Steam

The Green Light process is a mystery to all of us, maybe even to Valve. Thing is that it is easier now then like a year ago. This game deserves it a lot more than what gets through these days.

Thanks again everyone.
I know it's a strange sort of game, and there is a Steam Guide about it, in case you need it.

You'll probably also notice that it's full of Halloween art right now... That will revert in a few weeks.
