His question read: Do you think the 3D Game Maker is worth it

His thread was erased due to an inappropriate signature

Yes its a very nice program (made in Dark Basic ) but No. It limits your power. Buy Dark Basic if you want to make games.

It does depend on what you are wanting to do with it.

Some people will remember the old "Click N Play" programs from Clickteam. These would let you build a series of simple game types. Some of the programs developed were quite good, but they all had that "same look" about them and ultimately, you were limited in what you could do. Even those few games that were of a good quality had to be worked on for a long time to make them better than the usual crowd because of the limitations placed on you by the click n play system.

I would tend to disagree slightly with RPGamer when he says

as you can produce some interesting games with the 3DGamemaker.

There are many things you can do with the program and you can alter almost anything within its environment if you experiment. It is quite possible to produce a game similar (but not the same of cause) to the excellent “Axes of Evil (http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/?m=showcase_view&i=153) RPG, with voice-overs etc. However to do this kind of thing would require a lot of messing about with the 3DGamemaker, and ultimately you should look to buying either Darkbasic Classic or Darkbasic Professional.

But I would not write off the 3DGamemaker per say as it does fill a market need for the casual user or someone who wants to quickly design there own game with very little programming.

It depends what you expect from it. If you want to make straightforward shooters or driving games then it can be a lot of fun and well worth the money. If you expect to make the next Half Life then your really expecting a lot for your money, Gamemaker is just not capable of doing advanced stuff. I beta tested it and got a free copy, which I promptly gave to a friend to try - he really likes it because he'd love to make games but is not inclined to learn programming.

Personally, I don't think game construction kits have evolved much since SEUCK on the C64, which is why so many of us found DarkBASIC.

I myself went with db because I am a programmer, although T3DGM intruiged me. If you want to MAK TEH GAMEZ NOW!!! get T3DGM (in other words, if you don't have a mon th or two to learn programming and don't have a working additude, then don't get db) although I HIGHLY RECONMEND darkbasic pro and classic.

p.s. I hate that sig two.

i got t3dgm and i think it's great fun something i discovered you can do to make a goodish game quickly is to design each level in t3dbm then write a db prog to execute each level in .exe format in turn so that you can use a different player or weapon in each level.

I think that if your looking for a simple game that you can make really fast, get the 3d game maker. If you are looking for a game that is complicated and you intend to sell, get DB pro or classic. 3d game maker is really intended as a fun program that lets you click together a game without any effort(consequently being a game that doesn't look like it took any effort). I have considered buying it many times just to play around with, but decided that DBpro was better.
A nice click together/programming combo tool is 3drad. www.3drad.com
Personally, i think DBpro is better.

Does the 3dgamemaker come with a simple darkbasic editor? There are some things i want to do with it like Multiplayer online. I can always download a trial quickly if it does not. But please tell me.

There is no editor - it is purely point-n-click
There is no online multiplayer mode - only a two player mode where you take turns
There is no demo - but there is a very large video (40MB)

For free Plug-ins, source and the DBPro Interface library for Visual C++ 6 and .NET

i wouldnt even go there. i have it but found it disappointing no real control, limitations to what u can make etc. now i have db/dbpro its alot better more versatile and very very few limitiations as too wat you can make. my opinion is save up for db/dbpro it better value for money and is alot more rewarding when showing your game off to friends because ne1 can create a game in the 3dgm but not everyone can learn or knows how to program it.

so my advice save up to buy db/dbpro
dont get the 3dgm (unless you cant be bothered to program)

what did it say on his sig? the nest guy who tells me they're not gonna get banned are they? i hope not? banned or something.....????
well what's the use of #D Game Maker if it's so easy and it was also made by DarkBASIC isn't it better to just get the trial version of DB and then try to replicate something similar to 3D Game Maker
