ps: is there a list anywhere that itemizes all these little issues?

Case sensitive file names is "normal". You should always code for case sensitivity.
It is Windows that is the exception, allowing you to ignore the case of file names.

I think this one catches everybody out at the beginning of coding for other platforms (myself included!)
