In the last 5 days I decided to make a quick fps in DBC while I'm waiting for DBPro to arrive(I ordered it on the 5 of November btw) and I wanted to use a collision technique I had made.

Basicly I made a level editor, and then the main engine to load the levels. For now there is only one level in the demo but I might add more levels later. I used models from darkmatter(except for the medipack as you can guess).

http://www.excaver.com/downloads/quick_fps.rar - RAR file
http://www.excaver.com/downloads/quick_fps.zip - ZIP file

Anyway, this is just a simple game I made in DBC in 5 days so its nothing too spectacular. Because of the game acting silly and sometimes running at half speed(the speed doesnt vary much in game though) I have set the sync rate to 40 and used frameskip so it may be a bit jerky for some of you. I would have made this a lot better but I dont have the time, plus I only wanted something simple .

Tell me what you guys think

Not bad - the shootings a bit wonky, and the dinos appear from no-where and stay to near to you, but apart from that its not bad.

Mirrors are more fun than television. Well, that was fun, in a not-so-fun sort of way...

P.S. the secret to winning is to stand back away from the enemies. Also, to defeat the boss you can either shoot him from a distance like a coward, or run past him, and make him run in circles around you, mwauahahaha...ha....ha...yeah then shoot him.

By the way, here are some screen shots:

edit:

I played the game and killed the dinos that are on steroids and two small octopus dudes, then a big octopus dude killed me . Very nice

Lol thanks. I've edited the demo to make it easyier slighty and to give you people some chance of winning, lol. I also fixed that distance thing with the raptors. I also added a mouselook style thing but it is just the same as using the left/right arrow keys..plus you can shoot using the mouse!

Good game, tips... Have left and right keys as sidestep. Up and down aiming would be cool. Thats all .

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

Oh yeah, I will do that with the sidestep, I was wondering how to implement it earlier but you have given me the idea. Thanks
BTW, up and down aiming wouldnt do much because of the way I have set collision....then again, if I did do it I would also adjust it so you can do different parts of the enemy to kill it quicker
hmm I also know how to do pathfinding...
I'll just add the sidestep for now

use keys on the left AND right sides of the keyboard, that way you dont have to push the key board WAY over to the side, and when you have deprived space (like me) you dont have to cram yourself

Nice job PetRat. This is just the kind of thing I'd love to see in the tutorial section of this website.

1.) It's simple
2.) Responsive
3.) I had fun playing it

Well done. Although I know your busy with other projects, I'd really like to see this in the tutorial section, or built upon even further.

Thanks guys. I may just convert it to DBPro when I have time and possibly make a tutorial for it. I think you'll just have to wait to see how the collision is done
