Can anyone share some info on what this all means? Is the entire shebang, model packs and all going to be released for free?

Not sure about the model packs as that would require each author to agree first but yes, all parts of the editor and game engine will be completely open source.

That's pretty awesome! I love it when companies are nice enough to release older, but still functional software into the wild like that!
